Superintendent Report Highlights

It was an honor for me to serve as your interim superintendent for this school year. I'm grateful for each of you and for your encouragement and support during the school year. It is energizing to work for a school board whose members bring deep expertise from their various domains to the table. You have worked to ensure that I have sufficient context and history to help us make good decisions together. I also want to thank the SLP students, staff and families who have demonstrated incredible resilience and care for one another. I have shared the strengths and opportunities of this district from my outside perspective, and I am confident about the future because of the amazing students, dedicated staff, engaged community, and leadership team that Dr. Hines has assembled. I hope that I have contributed in some small way to the history of success here in SLP. I'm leaving with new learning and friendships and honestly, I couldn't ask for more.

Strategic Plan 2023-24 Year-End Summary

Dr. Becca Starr, Data Scientist and Title Coordinator, Ashley Sukhu, Senior Communications Specialist, and Jason Loewe, Assistant Director of Human Resources, presented an update on the district priority areas.

  • Priority 1 focuses on culturally relevant literacy through the CARE team process, emphasizing measurement areas and the structure of the CARE team. They highlighted efforts across different educational levels, such as self-regulation strategies in early childhood and fostering student belonging in middle school. High school teachers shared their activities and reflections. Next steps include ongoing work, observation of CARE teams, and detailed documentation.
  • Priority 2 involves developing a retention strategy to support staff of color, aiming for a culture of belonging. Human Resources uses various metrics to assess recruitment and retention efforts. The district committed to engaging at least 50% of staff of color through digital and in-person opportunities. Discussions included meeting outcomes, feedback on retention factors, and future aspirations to improve retention strategies.
