The south county Great AgVenture took place on Friday, May 10 at Arroyo Grande High School. The FFA students and other community agricultural businesses and groups helped put on ag-related stations for fourht grade students in the area. | |
House and Senate Ag Committee Chairs Release Overviews of Their Respective Farm Bill Plans and Priorities | |

On Wednesday, May 8th, frameworks were released by the House Ag Committee Chair, G.T. Thompson, and the Senate Ag Committee Chairwoman, Debbie Stabenow.
The House released a 5-page outline that highlighted a focus on expanding disaster programs, enhancing voluntary conservation programs, and strengthening investments in rural devolpment among other focuses. We are expecting the full House far bill text prior to the House May 23 markup likely on Friday, May 17th.
The Senate Ag Committee released its own 94-page farm bill outline. There has been no mentioned timeline for the Senate Committee to advance the Farm Bill.
Farm Bill negotiations continue to take place. Funding for the proposed bills will be clearer once full-text drafts are released.

AB 2260 , authored by Assemblymember Lisa Calderon (D Whittier) and supported by California Farm Bureau, passed from the Assembly 65-0, and moves onto the Senate. The bill adds important transparency to that depopulation program, by requiring regular reporting requirements to the Insurance Commissioner, the Legislature, and the public so that the effort to stabilize the competitive market can be gauged through determining success or failure in decreasing FAIR Plan residential and commercial policy numbers.
