AROUND CAMPUS

Congratulations to all four Poetry Out Loud contestants on their terrific performances in Chapel. Our school champion this year is Greer Kennedy (upper left), who will represent SJA at the State Semi-Finals in Barre in March. Marcus Burns (upper right) is the runner-up, and he is the standby for the event in Barre. Also competing were Cris Rosales (lower left) and Donley Johnson. Their performances can be viewed here.

Dr. Desjardins' Civil Engineering students have been building bridges in class using popsicle sticks. Each student had to follow specific guidelines and use white glue with no more than 50 sticks. The bridges were then tested to see how much weight they would hold. This design, built by junior Yubo Zhang, was one of three bridges that held at least 63 pounds, the current testing limit.

Mrs. Dedam's Integrated Science 1 students are exploring cell membrane concepts using soap bubbles. Because soap and phospholipids, the molecules that make up cell membranes, have similar structures, they behave in similar ways, making bubbles an excellent stand-in for cell membranes.

Mr. Roberts' Electricity I students check their connections during class.

Thank you to senior Siri Jolliffe and Mr. Weiss for this week's Music Monday in Chapel. To view the performance, click here.

The Nordic Ski team raced in Walden this week. Varsity and JV photos from the race can be viewed here.

Photos from the State Throwing Championships can be viewed here. The Indoor Track teams will conclude the state championships on Saturday at UVM. Galleries from the winter season can be viewed here.
