Exploring Our Cultural Assumptions in Our Complex World

When:  November 13, 2013
            5:30  - 7:30 pm

Where:  DoubleTree by Hilton (formerly Fiesta Inn)
              2100 South Priest Drive
              Tempe, Arizona  85282

Presenter:  Dr. Mallary Tytel, Ph.D., M.B.A.
President and Founder of Healthy Workplaces

We live and work in a complex world. Every day we choose to act in certain ways, creating recognizable patterns. These patterns - emerging from actions and connections among people - create culture.

By the end of this seminar, participants will be able to:

  • Articulate the cultural concepts of "Us" and "Them"
  • Understand "Cultural Programming"
  • Explore and potentially shift the nature of "Difference"
  • Identify, examine and begin to practice models for thinking differently about power and influence

This presentation supports leadership development theory and practice, and the everyday challenges we face in an increasingly diverse and complex world.

It Doesn't Take a Budget to Build a Diversity and Inclusion Culture Panel moderated by Christine French

When:  November 20, 2013

            11:15am - 1:15pm

Where:  Phoenix Country Club

              2901 North 7th Street
              Phoenix, Arizona  85014

In today's organizations and communities it is not hard to see how diversity encompasses our surroundings. Managers, leaders, and employees talk about diversity in their workplace, but if you were to ask does your company have a formal Diversity and Inclusion program, most would say no. The next question would be why. Organizations still struggle with not having a budget to build such a program or even the culture that embraces diversity, but don't realize it doesn't take a large budget or a budget at all to shine a light on Diversity. A panel of experienced diversity leaders will discuss how they have implemented diversity in their organizations while also sustaining the current culture.  HR practitioners and leaders will learn best practices from large, mid-sized and small Phoenix-based organizations around building a culture of diversity and inclusion on a shoestring. We will provide how to build a Diversity and Inclusion program with what already exist in the organizations today, how to find resources in the community, and steps to make it happen.

ICE - Arizona Requirements and Opportunities

Presenter:  Brad Lazna, Special Agent with Homeland Security Investigations

The instruction will cover recent changes to federal Form I-9, an overview of the E-Verify system, the ICE I-9 inspection process, and a brief description of the IMAGE (ICE Mutual Agreement between Government and Employers) program.

Undocumented workers secure jobs through fraudulent means, including the use of false documents and stolen identities. To combat unlawful employment and reduce vulnerabilities that help illegal aliens gain such employment, ICE introduced the Mutual Agreement between Government and Employers (IMAGE) program in 2006.

Attendance at this program will clarify what the decision, U.S. Chamber of Commerce v. Whiting, will mean for large and small employers in Arizona.
