Financial Literacy Day on Capitol Hill


SFEPD was honored to participate in Financial Literacy Day on Capitol Hill this month. The event, hosted by the Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy and the National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE), brought together several colleagues dedicated to promoting financial education. Thank you to the organizers for hosting such a great event and providing a platform to advance financial literacy.

Jackson State Financial Wellness Bootcamp


Jackson State University’s Financial Wellness Center hosted its third annual Financial Wellness Bootcamp from June 5-7, 2024. Aimed at middle school-aged students, the three-day camp was led by SFEPD Student Ambassadors and oversight professors and was sponsored by Wells Fargo. The camp offered a comprehensive, hands-on learning experience, focusing on essential financial skills such as budgeting, debt management, credit management, saving, and investing. A total of 26 participants attended the camp, gaining valuable knowledge to help them manage their finances and build wealth effectively in the future.

Elder Fraud in Focus


Investment scams were the costliest kind of elder fraud in 2023. These schemes cost victims more than $1.2 billion in losses last year. Additionally, tech support scams, business email compromise scams, confidence and romance scams, government impersonation scams, and personal data breaches all respectively cost victims hundreds of millions of dollars in 2023.
