Happy MAY!

They say April showers bring May flowers! Well, I guess this weekend has made up for the rain we didn't have earlier in the month. May promises to bring warmer weather and beautiful, colorful blossoms.

It is the rain that makes us appreciate the sunshine a little bit more. It is the struggle that sparks growth. It challenges us to appreciate what could be perceived as a negative to understand it is a necessary element to success. It also challenges us to slow down and take notice of the changes around us. The birds are chirping a little louder, the sun is rising a little earlier, the trees are blooming and the grass is growing.

I would invite you to also take notice of your body and how it functions. We tend to be less active in the winter months. Some have been less active since the beginning of the pandemic and have been working from home at dining room tables and chairs rather than a desk and ergonomic chair. Some have started chiropractic but have been spotty with your visits. I invite you to not base your schedule on how you feel. Remember only about 10% of your nerve pathways can feel anything. The other roughly 90% of your nerves supply vital messages from your brain to your organs and tissues. Why base your care on 10% of your function? And certainly, if there's an issue that presents itself, please bring it to our attention so we can find a resolution.

I know pain is a great motivator but remember your body needs to function at its best all the time. Ideally, getting adjusted should be something you incorporate into your lifestyle for the rest of your life.

As discussed in the office, double check your May calendar for days and hours of operation before heading over especially if you're coming from a distance.

Thank you again for being a part of our chiropractic family.

See you on your next visit.

Sweet music

No matter what type of music you're in to, we can all appreciate the talent, dedication and harmony a symphony presents. The stringed, woodwind, brass, piano and percussion instruments blend together forming a delightful treat for our ears. And who is responsible for coordinating and organizing these individual sounds into a masterpiece? The conductor!

Our bodies operate in a very similar manner to a professional orchestra. We are composed of numerous different body parts or "instruments" such as our hearts, lungs, kidneys, intestines, eyes, ears, etc. Each of these organs has a unique job to do and when working together in harmony our body's function and operate at a high level. In the same way a conductor oversees and coordinates the musicians playing the instruments our brains and nerve systems control and coordinate every function in the body. If we were to take away the conductor and each musician played randomly we would end up with noise. In the same way, if we were to interfere with the signals being sent from our brain to our body, it negatively impacts every aspect of our lives.

Chiropractors work with the conductor of your body. The chiropractic adjustment removes interference to the nerve system in the form of vertebral subuxations (spinal misalignments that cause nerve interference) to allow your body to make sweet music! Make sure your body's conductor is sending clear signals to your body's instruments by making regular chiropractic care a part of your lifestyle.

A dime's worth of damage

The weight of a dime, 8-10 mm Hg, that's all it takes to drain normal nerve transmission to a trickle. Stretching a nerve by as little as 6% can also decrease it's signal strength by 70%.

Your nerve system transmits the data of life. Depending on role, thickness and sheath covering, some nerves can relay information from your brain to your body at speeds exceeding 200 mph. If those impulses are communicating vital instructions like "how many times your heart needs to beat" or "how should your immune system respond to a pre-cancerous lesion", you want those messages traveling at the highest possible speeds - with NO interference. If those signals get blocked at the spinal level because of misaligned vertebrae (subluxations), damage to your health becomes eminent.

Sustained pressure and stretch on spinal nerves may not manifest symptoms immediately. Detrimental effects usually grow silently until a crisis occurs. That's why it's important to keep your spine in proper alignment with Chiropractic care - so your good health doesn't stop on a dime!

The rising tide raises all boats

I’m not sure who originally came up with this quote or idea, as I’ve seen a few people given credit for it. The idea behind it is that by helping everyone be and do better, we all benefit. I’d like to use this idea in regards to the lives of people in our community.

As you know, I’d like to see everyone in our community under regular chiropractic care because I know it will make them function and perform better in everything they do. I want everyone at their best. When people are performing and functioning better, they will be better at their jobs, at home with their family, toward other people, etc. By helping people be their best, I also directly benefit. So does my family, so do you, and the rest of our community.

In fact, when I’m checking and adjusting my practice members, it is not just they that are receiving the benefits of chiropractic care, but everyone they come in contact with. Think about that impact for a moment.

Hopefully, that will motivate you to share information about subluxations, chiropractic, and our office with more people so that they can begin making better choices. Those choices will result in a better life for them and their families. It can be the “rising tide to raise all the boats”, which will result in a better community to for all of us to live in.
