Summer Camp Funding
SFCASA will fund summer camps and activity fees for the youth we serve regardless of their location! If the youth’s guardians or PSW are not able to pay for their summer camps in full, and/or funding is a barrier for summer camp attendance, SFCASA can fill the gap. If transportation to camp is a barrier, we will be able to support with safe transportation through a partnership with Hop, Skip, Drive for eligible youth.

Will you please share an idea
to help our CASA Community?
|
We regularly hear at our CASA Community Network (CCN) Huddles how challenging it is to establish and maintain relationships when the youth lives far outside San Francisco or circumstances don’t allow you to see your youth weekly.
So, we are asking for your ideas - large and small!
How have you established or maintained a relationship if your assigned youth lives too far away or circumstances don’t allow you to see your youth on a weekly basis? What strategies have you tried? Please jot them down and send them to me at: janrleight@gmail.com.
Your CASA community will appreciate it!

ADULTING AND ACCOUNTABILITY - HOW TO SUPPORT
TRANSITIONAL AGED YOUTH (TAY) WORKSHOP
With Joey Hess
It is so common that TAY youth, who have only experienced adults telling them what to do have a hard time transitioning to setting their own authentic goals and then working towards them. It is also normal for CASAs serving TAY youth to feel frustrated when observing their lack of initiative and follow-through.
Join us for a unique opportunity to take a deep dive into the Harm Reduction lens with a focus on using Motivational Interviewing to have deeper conversations with TAY about goals, accountability, responsibility, and more.

CCN - CASA COMMUNITY NETWORK HUDDLE
Please join us on June 24th from 6:00PM - 7:00PM for the CASA Community Network Huddle. This will be an opportunity for CASAs to share and celebrate successes and wins so far this year. It will be a great chance to learn from each other about what has worked in supporting the young people we serve. Let’s spend time to acknowledge the victories both big and small, and come together to build community!
The CASA Community Network (CCN) is a network for CASAs, organized by CASAs and hosted by CASAs. We share, lean in and on, and support each other through events, such as The Huddle. Sometimes we learn from expert guest speakers in continuing education sessions. In The Huddle, we learn from experts – ourselves – we have collective years of expertise among us. We are a network of support – who better understands the ups, the downs, the joys, the challenges than we do.

UNLOCKING UNDERSTANDING: UNDERSTANDING DIFFICULT BEHAVIORS AND EMOTIONAL DYSREGULATION (CALIFORNIA CASA)
When a child who has experienced trauma melts down emotionally or struggles with big behaviors, the adults in their life can struggle to know how to make sense of exactly what is happening, or to know how to best help. Even if you logically know that trauma and adverse experiences can impact youth behavior - it can still be incredibly difficult to make sense of the complexity of the most difficult moments. In this training, we’ll focus on equipping you with information that will help you to better understand difficult behaviors, emotional dysregulation, in addition to providing you with actionable tips and tools that you can use in response.. You’ll learn: - How trauma impacts the nervous system, and how this is connected to “big” behaviors like aggression, opposition, lying, stealing, and more - Why and how kids can sometimes *want* to stop a behavior, but still can’t seem to do it (and how to help) - Brain-based information to help you make sense of the hardest moments - Brain-based strategies for responding to emotional dysregulation and big behaviors compassionately, supportively, and with the nervous system in mind And more!
Wednesday, June 26, 2024, 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm on Zoom
