Verification

If you have been accepted by a college or university and have not yet seen your financial aid package, you may have been selected for verification.

If you need to correct your SAR or provide documentation to a financial aid office, take the following steps:

  1. READ YOUR EMAIL. There are always specific instructions to complete the verification request.
  2. Gather the requested documents. They are usually the documents you gathered when you completed the FAFSA: tax forms, W-2 forms, other financial documents.
  3. Scan and upload the documents consistent with the school's instructions.

If you need help or have questions, please reach out to us in the SFA or CCC offices.

MAJOR OF THE MONTH

Forensic Science

Forensic science technicians aid criminal investigations by collecting and analyzing evidence. Many technicians specialize in either crime scene investigation or laboratory analysis. Forensic science technicians typically need at least a bachelor’s degree in a field such as physical science, biology, or forensic science. Forensic science programs may specialize in a specific area of study, such as toxicology, pathology, or DNA. Students who enroll in general natural science programs should make an effort to take classes related to forensic science. A list of schools that offer degrees in forensic science is available from the American Academy of Forensic Sciences. Many of those who seek to become forensic science technicians will have an undergraduate degree in the natural sciences and a master’s degree in forensic science.

RESOURCES OF THE MONTH

The Common Application Rollover

Class of 2024 Students:

Every year on August 1, Common App launches its refreshed application with updated information. Fortunately, students don’t have to wait until then to begin planning their application.

Common App Account Rollover is a college planning tool that allows students to create an account when they are ready to explore the application. Students can add key information to their accounts and roll over most of that information when the new application year begins on August 1. This could be a time-saving solution for students who are considering multiple college options or looking to get a head start on their college planning.

Build Your Own College Rankings

In an effort to help families learn more about college offerings, The New York Times has built a college search engine based on less well-known data points, including: net price, party school status, academic profile, and campus safety.
