HSH Heat Risk Notice
5/8/2024
Dear Community Partner,
The Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing (HSH) has an Extreme Heat Policy and Procedure which supports our system of care to increase responses to address the needs of unsheltered persons experiencing homelessness during high temperature events. Due to the current forecast of temperature highs at or above 80 degrees expected on 5/9 and 5/10, HSH will be activating Phase 1 of its protocol. This memorandum is in effect from 5/8/2024-5/10/2024.
HSH-FUNDED Outreach Program
- SFHOT will activate their Hot Weather Protocol to help clients prepare for higher temperatures expected on 5/9 and 5/10 beginning 5/8/24.
- SFHOT will conduct wellness checks to identify any individuals or pets needing displaying signs of heat related illness or requiring emergency response 5/9-5/10.
- SFHOT will provide extra water to individuals and pets as needed.
- SFHOT will advise clients in tents to look for more shaded areas, to avoid staying inside their tents as they can become hot.
- SFHOT will provide reminders to individuals to hydrate constantly and remove layers to stay cooler when possible.
Additional HSH Response Efforts
HSH informs all of its programs regarding the forecasted hot weather asking that they:
- Inform clients of heat and safety measures.
- Increase wellness checks of on-site clients and guests.
- Provide water and cooling areas as needed.
- Contact 9-1-1 regarding any clients in distress.
- Contact HSH for non-emergency assistance.
Thank you,
HSH
