Welcome to the SEPTEMBER Council Connect

President's Message - Judy Weston

CHRIST IN THE POOR

My Sisters in Christ,

The National Council of Catholic Women Convention is in the books. It is difficult to put into words the experiences from the convention. This year’s theme was “Called to an Encounter with Jesus.” I found my heart touched several times as I listened to the speakers Dr. ValLimar Jansen and Katie McGrady. They both spoke about the vital role of the feminine genius in our lives. The liturgies were beautiful and we had time to spend with Jesus in the Eucharist. I found it wonderful when confession was offered there was a priest who welcomed you at the door and guided you to a confessor.

One particular moment was what I witnessed on our trip back to the hotel.............

President's Project

As we embark on our Council Meetings this month, filled with vibrant discussions about our upcoming projects, I’d like to sprinkle a friendly reminder in the mix! It's time for us to rally around our pregnancy centers, as the adoption deadline is fast approaching. Make sure to email the pregnancy center you'd like to support, as every bit of encouragement and assistance goes a long way in making a difference. Please email me your Pregnancy Center choice to ldccwpresident@gmail.com with your pregnancy center in the subject line.

SERVICE - Joyce Reich

As this is going to press, the schools have started or are preparing to start another school year. As many are saying, “Where has summer gone?” It has flown by; the annual Convention of NCCW is over, and it’s time for local Parish Councils of Catholic Women to resume meeting once again.

Many local service projects happen during these early fall months. Backpack programs are getting started and are always looking for help either with donations or packing the bags or distributing them to the schools. It’s not too early to think about things such as coat or mitten drives. Our annual diaper drive is held during the month of October.

LEADERSHIP-Jane Potts

ONE SIZE DOES NOT FIT ALL!  What works for one Deanery or Parish may not work for another.  We all hope and pray for success in our CCW’s.   Life is busy!   But how do we get there?   Besides prayer, it takes creativity and persistence.   Practice active listening.   Be open to new ideas.   No project or activity is without a few bumps in the road, but as a leader you have the ability to get things done!  Don’t give up while pursuing a solution.   There are many roads that can be taken to reach your goal.

President Elect

We were on our way......

Due to living in SE Nebraska, I decided to drive to the NCCW Convention. I was blessed to have two travel companions, Fr. Lux, the LDCCW Spiritual Advisor and Joyce Reich, LDCCW Service Commission Chair. We had decided to stop and visit the Fr. Kapaun Museum and church in Pilsen, Oklahoma (about a halfway point to Oklahoma City). My GPS told me to turn down a side road. I didn’t think too much about it until suddenly, it was no longer rock but a dirt road. Not just any dusty dirt road, oh no, it was a soft, sticky, VERY muddy dirt road. Well, my farm girl experience kicked into gear, and I remembered my husband saying to me, “once you start down a muddy road you can’t turn back.” So, I proceeded to plow my way through swerving to the right and left, going through standing water, and seeing thick mud dripping from my mirrors. I know it was only by the grace of God and Fr. Lux’s prayers, we finally made it to pavement and found the chapel and museum. It was just one of the many grace filled moments that we experienced enroute and at the NCCW Convention.

To our Spiritual Advisors:

It was resolved during the Biennial Convention in April, to pray for our priests. As your President, the Masses are currently being said at St. Michael's Parish in Hastings Nebraska. Each month a mass is said for all the Spiritual Advisors of the Deaneries in the Lincoln Diocese

  • Purpose: To recognize and give thanks to our Spiritual Advisors. Whereas: The Bishop of Lincoln assigns a priest to be the Dean for each of the thirteen deaneries.
  • Whereas: The Deans are to serve as the Spiritual Advisors for the Deanery Council of Catholic Women. Be it Resolved: In gratitude and thanks we honor all the Spiritual Advisors for their guidance with a monthly Mass to be said in their honor during the 2024-26 term.

The women of Pi Alpha Chi are excited to have school start on August 26th! In the meantime we’re getting ready to welcome our new pledge class of women. We’ll be having work meetings for recruitment two weeks from now where we’ll get together and discuss tactics while also rekindling the love we have for this sisterhood. We will have fun get-togethers like watching the sunrise at Holmes Lake, grilling out in the Newman backyard, and celebrating the end of work week with a pool party! If you know of a young women going to UNL this fall and think they’d be interested in growing in faith and friendship alongside our sisters, you can fill out this link:

Once our recruitment officially starts on August 24th, we’ll be in contact with them!
