Let's get cookin'

Hello Everyone,

Our concession needs your generosity in providing pies and cakes for this year’s Sweet Treat Tent. Last year’s Sweet Treat Tent was a huge success in helping us raise money for community outreach programs. I would greatly appreciate it if you can find it in your heart to bake a pie or cake (or two) for this year’s Berkstock. If you are able to contribute a pie or cake please email me or the church and let me know what you intend to bake.

PIE and CAKE GUIDELINES: For weather and health safety regulations.

Pies that can be sold whole or by the slice.

Pies with a bottom crust or with a bottom and top crust.

Homemade or store-bought crusts are fine.

Apple, berry, nut and seasonal fruit pies sell best.

No commercially bought pies please.

No pies needing refrigeration please.

Please no meringue pies.

Disposable pie tins unless you are donating your pie dish as well as the pie.

Cakes that can be sold whole or by the slice.

Layer cakes sell best.

No cakes requiring refrigeration please. Due to lack of refrigeration and space, please deliver your pies and cakes to the Christ trinity parish hall on Saturday September 28 at 10 AM. If you cannot deliver your pies or cakes and need us to pick them up please let me know and I’ll get someone to collect them.

Thank you to everyone who baked last year and thank you for baking again this year.

Sincerely,

Joe Kołodziej

A chamber orchestra in Sheffield

If you have never been to a Lich Gate Concerts event, please put this one on your calendar. Presenting for the first time a chamber orchestra ensemble, Artistic Director Jorge Ávila has curated an exciting program featuring works for string orchestra, from Baroque to Modernist

We open with Edward Elgar’s famous Serenade for Strings in E minor, Op. 20, one of his most often performed works. This is followed by the Élégie movement from the Serenade for Strings in C Major, Op. 48, by Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Then we will hear the complete Four Seasons (Le quattro Stagioni) by Antonio Vivaldi, with artistic director Jorge Ávila as soloist. Each concerto gives a musical expression to the season of the year. In a complete change of color and texture, we will lastly hear the Romanian Folk Dances by Béla Bartók, a collection of dances based upon the fiddle-tunes of the Transylvanian districts.

Our esteemed string quartet members, Jorge Ávila, Violin I; Rachel Handman, Violin II; Orlando Wells, Viola; and Sarah Hewitt-Roth, Cello, serve as principal chairs in this chamber orchestra of eleven players, with Ávila also serving as Concertmaster.

Anticipation of Berkstock 2024 - September 28th

The excitement builds around the anticipation of our third annual Berkstock Food and Music Fest. Berkstock is a Corner of Kindness for our community! It's free music, wonderful food for purchase, and the opportunity for neighbors to just sit and enjoy it all together. It all happens on the lawn of Christ Trinity Church. We have changed up the menu! Old-time favorites such as Padre Pollo's Holy Smoke BBQ and Roberto's fabulous brick oven pizza will be offered along with homemade pies and cakes and our hometown-favorite Big Elm Beer! We are also adding macaroni and cheese, autumn soups, and grilled cheese to the menu. We will need your help!

Please reserve September 28!

A message from Pastor Erik

We have heard from The Rev. Tina Rathbone that she is leaving Grace Episcopal Church in Great Barrington and returning to Boston where she hopes to work more directly with marginalized communities. As Tina and our neighbors at Grace enter into this time of transition, I would ask you to hold all of them in your prayers. As difficult as endings are, and as much as in-between times can feel like the wilderness, we know as people of faith that new beginnings are even now being prepared, not just for Tina and the people of Grace, but for all who will work with them and are their neighbors.

OWLES to visit Tort Museum

On Wednesday September 18, the OWLES, Christ Trinity’s senior outing group, will visit the Tort Museum in Winsted, Connecticut. The museum has exhibits on fascinating court cases throughout United States history. We will meet in the church parking lot at 10:00 and carpool from there. Admission is $10, payable at the door. After our visit we will find a nice restaurant in Winsted for lunch. All are welcome at OWLES events.

From Woods Hole

A Celebration of New Ministry for The Reverend Peter Feltman-Mahan as the Rector of Church of the Messiah in Woods Hole was held on June 5, 2024. We had a wonderful visit with Peter and his family in August and found him very happy with his beautiful new church home.

This week, Peter sends us this announcement:

International Buy a Priest a Beer Day is September 9th.

Mark your calendar and make your preparations now. The holiest (sic) day of the year is nearly nigh upon us!

Worshiping with us on Sunday

Lucille joined all the others celebrating birthdays in September, at the altar for a Birthday Blessing. Tomorrow, Lucille Mikesell turns 105! We are fairly certain that she holds the record as the eldest Christ Trinity fellow-worshiper. Happy Happy Birthday, Lucille!

This Saturday: The Sheffield Fair 11:00 - 4:00

Padre Pollo's Holy Smoke Barbecue will be featured at The Sheffield Fair on Saturday. When you are trying to decide which food vendor to patronize during your day at the fair, please know that this is not a fund-raiser for the church. ALL of the proceeds from Padre Pollo's go back into the Southern Berkshire community. So it's a win/win: You get to have a delicious pulled pork lunch and also support our outreach ministries.

If you are interested in determining what those outreaches are, come get involved in our worshiping community. Everyone has a voice. Sundays at 8:00 and 10:00

My name is Bob Healy and I am coordinating the floral display at the Sheffield Fair on Sept 7. I am hoping to have a good number of exhibits and I need your help. I am looking for small arrangements and individual blossoms. This is also a chance to talk up the Garden Club and let Sheffield residents know what the club is up to. So if you are able to make an arrangement that can be dropped off between 10 am and 11am at the town park pavilion on Sept 7 I would very much appreciate it. Arrangements need not be fancy, it is not required that flowers come from your garden, although that is encouraged. Your help will make for a good display.

Let me know if you have any questions

Please contact us if you would like to be involved in the planning/implementation of this festive annual event at Big Elm Brewing, on Silver Street in Sheffield. We will need lots of help leading up to and on the day of Oktoberfest! This fundraiser will support our 2025 Appalachian Trail ministry.
