Afterschool Program Start-Up Toolkit

The ND Afterschool Network launched an Afterschool Program Start-Up Toolkit to assist schools, organizations, and communities who are exploring starting an out-of-school time program (also called OST). OST refers to any programming outside of the typical school day serving youth ages 5 – 18. The toolkit is designed as a guide to outline the necessary components of an OST program and provides a framework for high-quality, safe, and affordable OST programs across the state. The toolkit includes information on program structure, funding, transportation, nutrition, and more.

SEEC District Reports

Over the years, SEEC has worked diligently to improve our communication about the impact of our programs, professional development offerings, and services. As a Regional Education Association, we aim to provide solutions and address the needs of our stakeholders, including member schools, educators, providers, students (from early childhood through Grade 12), and communities. Measuring the impact of SEEC’s programs and services is an ongoing focus for our agency. Many of our programs include performance measures to identify key outcomes, often as part of grant requirements. However, some programs and services are more challenging to quantify, which makes demonstrating our overall impact more complex.

In SEEC’s Strategic Plan, under the anchor of Advancing Relationships, we have set the goal to demonstrate the value of SEEC’s services through a concept we call Value on Investment. This objective is also a key component of our 2023-24 Operational Plan, where we have seen an opportunity to enhance our reporting processes.

As part of this enhancement, we have revamped our annual district reports to provide clearer and more accessible data on the services and offerings your district participated in during the previous school year. The reconfigured reports aim to not only present the data more effectively but also to serve as a tool to identify potential additional supports as your district plans for each school year.

Our data specialist, Chris Thompson, is currently analyzing the data for the end-of-year reports for the 2023-24 school year. These reports will be sent to each Superintendent in July, providing a comprehensive overview of the services and supports utilized by your district. We look forward to continuing to support our districts and to finding new ways to communicate the value of our work.

SEEDS of Learning Showcase

Sunday, May 5th, was spent celebrating and wrapping up our 2023-24 SEEDS of Learning Cohorts! We were able to honor the hard work and dedication of over 50 early childhood educators and site directors from across the state. SEEDS participants joined the event in either Bismarck or Fargo. Each program was given the opportunity to share their biggest takeaways and how they implemented the strategies and skills they learned during the 6-9 month cohorts. Here is what some of the providers and teachers had to say about the SEEDS Program:

“I know SEEDS is to enrich the learning experience of the children in our care, but SEEDS has enriched the teaching experience for myself and my staff. Nobody is in Early Childhood Education for recognition or respect, but you gave us both. You treated us as educators and gave us tools that go beyond the classroom, not something those in child care have ever seen. I wish I could better express how big an impact SEEDS has had on [our program] but the ripple is still growing- you’ve given us power and strength to expect more of ourselves and the early childhood profession. A voice to advocate for more. Thank you!”

“SEEDS has done wonders in my classroom. My kids have their letter sounds almost mastered. All my kids can write their own names. My kids are always singing the rhyming song and producing new words to rhyme. SEEDS has helped skyrocket their vocabulary skills [and] has given me new and fun ways to transition between activities.”

“SEEDS of Learning caught my attention to help retain and provide the older daycare kids and give them the opportunity of a preschool learning experience. This is my tenth year as a daycare provider, and I wanted to find a better curriculum. Little did I know the program would offer so much more. Not just lessons, but the reasons why each foundation is important in literacy, math, and social emotional and understanding where each child maybe at to help them succeed! Recently a daycare parent asked me if her child should attend a preschool and she was happy to hear that, through my SEEDS training, she can happily stay at my daycare!”

“Overall, the biggest impact of the SEEDS of Early Learning course lies in its potential to improve the quality of childcare. By equipping childcare providers with the knowledge and skills to create nurturing, supportive environments for children, the course can have a lasting influence on the lives of countless children and families for years to come.”
