Tuition Information 24-25 Season

Dear SDYS Parents and Guardians,

As we prepare to launch the registration and audition process for SDYS’ 2024-25 season, I wanted to share that we will be implementing a series of incremental tuition increases over the next three years.

We do not make these decisions lightly. I’m sure it comes as no surprise to you that inflation is impacting every part of our economy and like virtually every business out there, SDYS’ costs have increased as well, especially since the pandemic. We have done our best to control costs such as staffing, benefits, venues, insurance, coaches, and music rentals, but nearly every item in SDYS’ budget has risen over the last several years. While fundraising helps, tuition currently covers only about 40% of our expenses.

To start to bring us more in line with other high-quality programs in similar markets around the country for the 2024-2025 season, you’ll see increases of between $100-$200, depending on the ensemble and level. While this will help us continue to maintain a balanced budget in light of increased costs, it will also ensure two very important things: 1) an on-going commitment to the quality of the SDYS experience. We know how much you and your family value this program, especially with recent changes that offer more personalized, higher quality instruction. This will not go away and will instead create further opportunities for program enrichment; and, 2) our commitment to tuition assistance will be maintained. With increases in tuition, we will broaden our eligibility requirements for assistance and do our best to ensure that every eligible musician is able to take part in SDYS, regardless of their financial circumstance.

These commitments are central to who we are and to our ability to create a community in which we are all proud to be a part. I hope we can count on your continued support.

Summer Volunteer Opportunity!

ChIMES Guest Musician

The early childhood ChIMES program introduces the foundations of music to babies, toddlers, and preschoolers through singing, movement and rhythm activities. One of their favorite parts of class is learning about different instruments from SDYS students like you!

As a ChIMES Guest Musician, you will come visit a class to demonstrate your instrument (by playing a short piece of music of your choosing, and a children's song like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star). Students of all ages and from all SDYS ensembles are welcome!

We have volunteer slots available Wed - Sat mornings (indoor Liberty Station and outdoor Balboa Park locations). Please complete the Guest Musician Interest Form if you are interested, and a staff member will get back to you.

This is a fun experience that also counts for community service or volunteer hours. Thank you!
