Packet Pickup Information

What is Packet Pickup?
An Event Packet containing your rider number, timing chip, and other essentials must be picked up before the ride begins. Packet Pickup is offered Saturday all day at the Expo and as a backup on Sunday morning at the Starting Line ONLY.

All merchandise will be available at the Saturday Packet Pickup/Expo!
FAQ

What do I need to pickup my packet?

A PHOTO ID and TWO signed waivers. You can print and sign those ahead of time and bring them with you or we will have them onsite.

What if I am picking up for someone else?

If you are picking up a packet for someone else you MUST bring a copy of their photo ID and their TWO signed waivers in hand. These will be turned in to receive the packet. (NO EXCEPTIONS)


Where do I pick up my merchandise?

At the Expo during the packet pickup on Saturday OR Sunday at the merchandise pick up tent ONLY after the ride.


What if I want to change my distance?

Please come to Packet Pickup and go to the New registrations / Solutions Line. If you choose to do a shorter ride while riding Sunday your times will not be posted. Send email to info@sdgranfondo.com

Parking

PARKING - Parking for the ride is located in any public parking lot/garage or legal street parking in the surrounding area near Ruocco park – Seaport Village - 600 N. Harbor Dr. Many of the metered parking spaces in San Diego are now enforced 7 days a week and are only 2 Hours. Please check signs and meters if you park on the street. Please arrive early.


Metered parking is available at Seaport Village and the Midway / Tuna Harbor parking lots.


There are many other parking lots in the area that can be used for parking for Sunday as you can ride your bike to the start.

Day of the Event

Bag Drop

Bag drop will be available at the start.


Location: At Beer Garden


It is best to bring a backpack or bag with your items inside with your name and Bib Number clearly marked.


Please do not leave any medicines you would need on the ride such as an inhaler (carry these types of items with you.)


Retrieve your bags behind the beer garden.

Stay for the Party at Ruocco Park

We suggest you bring shoes and a light jacket for after the ride so you can enjoy lunch, the Ballast Point Beer Garden, and the Life Sports Foundation Raffle.


We will look after your bike at the Valet area next to the finish line.


Remember to bring $$ for Life Sports Foundation Donation in the Beer Garden, we also accept Venmo.

Please do not leave valuables, we are not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Course Safety


Rules of the road – This Course is Open to all traffic. All riders must obey police officers, traffic laws, traffic lights, and stop signs. Violators could be ticketed by local law enforcement and/or disqualified from the event. You are responsible for knowing California traffic laws. All three routes cross railroad tracks. Please be cautious, obey all signs, warnings, and train crossing gates. Look both ways before crossing and ensure that your bicycle wheels remain perpendicular to the tracks. Helmets are required at this event and must be worn at all times while on the bike. They must be in good working order and meet current CPSC Bike helmet standard codes. Please exercise caution when riding on all roads. Pay close attention to the road for other riders, pedestrians, vehicles, all debris, potholes, gaps, road furniture, missing pavement, crevasses, manhole covers/surround, and other normal and unusual road hazards.

Wording from County Permit; Inform your participants that "the course is an "OPEN ROAD" with everyday vehicle traffic to be aware of around them; and that participants will comply with all the "RULES OF THE ROAD" and regulations as defined in the California Vehicle Code... instruct all participants that at all times they must ride single file and stay to the right hand side of the roadway, not impede regular traffic and be courteous to drivers."

In case of Emergency: If you are involved in – or witness – a serious crash or other medical emergency call 911. For more minor first aid needs, go to the nearest rest stop, or flag down a SAG vehicle – Yellow Granfondo Sign on front window, or call Ride Dispatch (Medical / SAG/ Mechanical) 858-268-1250. – Please put this number in your phone NOW – You MUST Leave Message with the following info: Name, Bib number, Location (look for mile markers) reason you are calling, and your phone number.

 

Required Equipment

You are required to carry tools for changing tires, extra inner tubes, a patch kit, and a tire pump. Mechanical support is available for issues that are more complex than changing a flat. Call dispatch for mechanical assistance 858-268-1250. Tubes and pumps are available at all rest stops.


Be prepared to ride in all types of weather. Bring filled water bottles and energy bars or gels.


Mechanical Support - Our Official Bike Shop, Moment Bicycles, will provide skilled mechanics at the Finish Line Expo on Saturday, Sunday morning and during the ride. The Mechanic Support vehicles from Moment and Velofix will be on the course. If you have a mechanical problem, safely get off the roadway and call Event Headquarters Rider Dispatch 858-268-1250, leave message. We will attend to your needs as quickly as possible. There are also tubes, tools and a bike pump at each rest stop. Course Staff have Yellow Granfondo sign on front window


SAG - SAG drivers are primarily on the course for riders who need a ride to the finish due to mechanical or health issues. If extreme conditions exist, such as cold, heat, wind, or rain, please be aware that SAG drivers might be extremely busy, and event organizers recommend that riders call friends or family for assistance.


Dispatch – For SAG or mechanic support call dispatch at 858-268-1250 and leave a message with your name, number and location on the course we will have the nearest support vehicle dispatched. If you have a medical emergency, please call 911.


EXPO Closes at 4:00 PM on Saturday and 4:00 PM on Sunday


FOOD SERVICE & Massage on Sunday Closes at 4:00 PM

(to go boxes will be available after 4:00 PM)


BEER Garden on Sunday Closes at 5:30 PM


Course Closure Time is 5:00 PM

Bike Numbers: This is Very Important for Timing and Photos

Each rider must display his or her bike number as shown in the pictures below. This ensures that our timing equipment will accurately record each rider. Hang the number with the timing chip on the front of the bike using the wire ties provided. Do not bend, twist, or wrap the number around head tube or place it anywhere else on the bicycle.
KOM / QOM: GranFondo route -The climb is located on Japatul Rd at mile 36 on the long route and will serve as the KOM/QOM for the Gran Fondo riders. Keep an eye out for the start sign at the bottom of the climb. Please ride close to the right side of the road for electronic timing point reading.
 
Age Categories for KOM/ QOM Bragging Rights: Male and female U23 / 23-34 / 35-44 / 45-54 /55-64 / 65+

Results

Preliminary results will be posted throughout the day on our website. Results will be finalized within a week of the event.
