"In the best schools, everyone in every position is a teacher. There are dozens of job titles, but they all share the same role: CHANGE A KID'S LIFE." Bowman

Dear Southern Door Community,
Southern Door has been unique this year by being in school every day. This took a lot of planning last summer, professional development, and the commitment of our staff to ensure that our procedures protected the health and safety of everyone here at school. Our staff's dedication, passion, and willingness to do whatever it took to learn new things, allowed our students to experience academic success, and participate in many of their normal activities, under modified conditions. The Southern Door staff are an inspiration to many.

As part of their observation of the upcoming National Staff Appreciation Week, the Board of Education recently issued this special acknowledgement of their efforts:
“The Southern Door Board of Education would like to extend both our gratitude and appreciation to the Southern Door Staff for their dedication and commitment to our students.

This year, more than ever, we gratefully admire the creative ways that they have effectively balanced their time, prioritizing academics and social & emotional learning needs while also providing support services in nutrition, health & safety, facility needs, and transportation.
While there have been many challenges during this pandemic, and probably more to come, we are impressed by their dedication, their incredible efforts, the innovations and new practices they have implemented, and the continued relationships they develop with students and their families. As a district, we are grateful for their strength, positivity, expertise, and caring day in and day out, providing students with an environment where they are encouraged to not only reach their potential, but to exceed it!
The educational experiences and positive influences our Southern Door Staff extend far past the walls of a classroom, and provide our students with the skills needed to accomplish their goals and dreams. Working in education is one of the noblest professions, and we thank them for choosing Southern Door as their home.” April 19, 2021

As we move into the last three weeks of school, we hope you will take some time before the year ends to show your appreciation to the staff members that are a part of your child’s life and comprise our Eagle Proud, Eagle Strong school community!

Yours in Education,
Patti

DISTRICT SELECTED FOR AMERICORPS PROGRAM
The District has been selected as a new host site for the Farm to School AmeriCorps Program. This national program will help to continue the work begun this year with our Farm to School planning grant of providing educational farm to school activities, building strong community connections, and supporting sustainable Farm to School activities that encourage healthy behaviors and improve school food environments.

The Southern Door Farm to School Committee consists of Co-Directors Patricia Vickman and Rich Olson; community representatives Moriah Brey, Toni Sorenson, and Cami Pregger; and school district staff members Jessica Meacham, John Swanson, and coordinator, Sara Gray.

Rich Olson, Co-Director of Southern Door Farm to School Committee stated "It is important that school children learn where their food comes from and to support local, community grown food to benefit our area. Giving kids the opportunity to observe a key part of life cannot be underestimated."

The AmeriCorps Farm to School Program was recently featured in a WBAY - Channel 2 broadcast which can be viewed at this link.
