Spring is when you feel like whistling even with a shoe full of slush.” Doug Larson

Dear Southern Door Community,

As we welcome in the first of April, like former Advocate columnist and editor, Doug Larson, we never quite know what weather the day will bring. The one thing we do know is that in spring, everyone's steps are a little lighter, there seems to be more energy as the day ends, and our being able to get outdoors brings a newfound freedom and hope that a little more "normal" is coming back into our lives.

With spring also comes new beginnings. This week, it was announced that Chris Peterson will be taking over as the new district administrator come July 1 when I retire. I know Chris as a colleague in our CESA7 consortium. His leadership and experiences will help to not only carry on the many great things we have done together at Southern Door, but also bring new insights to help the district continue to grow as it prepares students to be college, career, and community ready. You can read more about Chris in the press release below.

My best wishes to you for a healthy, happy, and safe Easter holiday season. Enjoy these few days of break with your family!

Yours in Education,
Patti
Patricia Vickman, Superintendent

NEW DISTRICT ADMINISTRATOR ANNOUNCED
Southern Door School District School Board President Penny Price announced today that Christopher Peterson has been selected as the new District Administrator of the Southern Door School District, effective July 1, 2021. Mr. Peterson's contract will be acted on by the Board of Education on April 19, 2021, pending finalization of contract details and transition from his current position.

Upon the announcement of District Administrator Patricia Vickman’s retirement in January, the search process, under the direction of the Wisconsin School Boards Association commenced, including a rigorous application process and multiple interviews. Finalists completed an extensive interview process, which involved meeting with an advisory stakeholder panel, as well as several interviews for the Board of Education.

Board president, Penny Price, stated, "The pool of candidates was highly qualified. Our choice represents the profile built from the voices of our community, and we are thrilled with the qualifications and the experience Mr. Peterson will bring to our district."
Christopher Peterson has served the Howards Grove School District for the past 12 years as Superintendent. His career began in 1995 as a third-grade classroom teacher and assistant football and softball coach in the Little Chute Area School District. He was an elementary principal in the districts of Wausaukee and Kimberly prior to moving to Manitowoc where he was both principal and district summer school coordinator.  Mr. Peterson obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Wisconsin Whitewater, and Masters of Education Leadership from Marian University.  His superintendent certification was earned from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee.

Peterson says: "I am truly honored to be joining the Southern Door County School District and excited to work with the talented group of teachers, support staff, administrators, board members and families. Southern Door is a great fit for me and my family, and I am looking forward to working with staff and the community for many years to come."
