New Old Stuff: History Up In Smoke
Gene Autry always wanted to build a Western museum at his Melody Ranch movie studio in Placerita Canyon. But his hopes were dashed Aug. 28, 1962, when two fires that started in the SCV merged and tore through the canyon. Dismayed, he built what's now the Autry National Center in Griffith Park instead, and he sold the Placerita ranch to the Veluzats, who resurrected it.
