On Monday evening, April 17, 47 of the SCIS Orchestra Students competed in the Solo Festival. The students were evaluated on their individual performances by a judge. Each of these students received a Superior rating!

Dress Code - Shorts Weather

Spring has come to Lovejoy, and with the warm weather comes the opportunity to wear shorts and sleeveless tops. Please remember students must wear shorts down to where a student's knuckles fall when making a fist when attending classes or school functions. If a student comes to campus with shorts that are considered too short, the student will be asked to call home for appropriate clothing. Tops must have straps that are three fingers in width or something must be worn over it. If students do not have something they can change into, our clinic does have some clothing, but we can't guarantee it will fit. We appreciate your help, click here for the SCIS dress code.

It's that time of year!! 6th graders will attend Hawaiian Falls in The Colony on Friday, May 19th. Please see our online payment center to pay for this annual event.

April 17-28: Change for Change:

Did you know? Americans used about 5 0 billion plastic water bottles last year. However, the U.S.'s recycling rate for plastic is only 23 percent, which means 38 billion water bottles - more than $1 billion worth of plastic - was wasted last year.

Your Student Lighthouse team would like to do something about that. We will have a coin drive/battle for a refillable water bottle station to be added to our water fountain. For every $1000, we will be able to add another station.

Here is where we need your help. The three buckets with the largest amount of change will receive a PIE IN THE FACE. Mr. Winkler and Mrs. Underwood are two candidates who could get "pied".

Earth Week April 24-28

The lighthouse students have come up with a theme for each day. To give you advanced planning notice, here are the themes for each day to weave into your daily Lessons. Each team will have a day that they can decide how best to make the theme work with what they are doing in class. Team Leaders- Allyson and I will be talking to you about this theme and how to make it easy on your end. Our Kids are so excited about earth week!

NEW! Lovejoy Legacy Read

We are excited to introduce a school-wide reading experience that will foster and promote a community of readers at LISD while also celebrating our diversity. The goal is to encourage empathy, perspective taking, and acceptance by prompting Leopards to read books, both fiction and nonfiction, about people who are different from themselves. By immersing ourselves in the stories of others, we can better understand the paths they choose to follow and experience what it means to "WALK A MILE IN MY SHOES" and "SOLVE PROBLEMS THROUGH COMPASSION." These are our themes for this year's Legacy Read. Books will be on display to provide suggestions for book selections.

We will be celebrating the Lovejoy Legacy Read throughout the month of April. Students and staff members have participated in making a video that shares the lines from the Children's Charter for Compassion to kick off the month. Students will have the opportunity to sign the Children's Charter for Compassion if they choose to do so. Watch for our hashtag #CompassionateLovejoy on social media throughout the month of April. We are also going to be hosting a Sock Drive through the library during the month of April. All campuses will be participating in the Legacy Read and promoting our special activities.

Softball Senior Night: April 21

You are invited to join the LHS Softball team on Friday, April 21st, for Senior Night. This is the last district game at Leopard Park. Senior Night activities will begin at approximately 6:45 PM, with the game beginning at approximately 7:05 PM.

Lovejoy Lacrosse Senior Game Day: April 22

The Lovejoy Lacrosse Club invites everyone to join them for their Senior Day game this Saturday, April 22, at Lovejoy High School Stadium. Game time is 2:00 PM. The Lovejoy Lacrosse team will be taking on the Fort Worth Panthers in their final Varsity home game of the season. The Seniors, George, Cole, Tyler and Logan, will be honored at halftime. Come on out and show your support.

E-Waste Recycling Event: April 22

In conjunction with the celebration of Earth Day, Lovejoy High School will host an e-waste recycling day on Saturday, April 22nd from 9 AM - Noon in the LHS parking lot. Please click here for additional information regarding the e-waste collection.

Lovejoy Country Run: May 6

Online Registration Ends: April 28

Lovejoy Leopards, Inc. invites you to join them for a morning run or walk in the country surrounding Lovejoy High School. The 1K Fun Run will begin at 7:30 AM, followed by the 5K at 8:00 AM. The certified 5K course is a fast course or, if you prefer, you may choose the 1K Fun Run. Races will be chip-timed by Race Chip Timing.

After running, enjoy a pancake breakfast which is included in the race entry fee. Non-race participants may buy tickets at the door ($7 for adults, $5 children ages 6-12, and children 5 years and younger eat free) for breakfast.

Oxfam Hunger Banquet: April 30

An Oxfam Hunger Banquet is a memorable, interactive event which brings hunger and poverty issues to life. After 40 years, this volunteer-led effort is still going strong and has changed hundreds of thousands of lives.

Draw a ticket and expand your world by attending Carrie Duke's Oxfam Hunger Banquet.

WSMS Independent Studies student, Carrie Duke, is planning this hunger banquet for her 2nd semester project.

Participants will choose an income card which will depict what they will have for dinner. Depending on the income card, attendees will receive either a more nutritious and a higher quantity of food, or a less nutritious meal.

Join Carrie on Sunday, April 30th, from 5:00 - 6:30 PM in the WSMS Cafeteria (1101 West Lucas Road, Lucas, TX, 75002) for a learning experience which will change your outlook on world hunger. See hunger in a whole new way.

Lovejoy ISD Pre-Kindergarten

Registration for the Lovejoy ISD Pre-Kindergarten program is now open. If you have a child who will be 4 years of age by September 1, 2017, you may now register him or her in this tuition-based program. Click here to access the registration packet.

We are looking forward to offering this new program featuring credentialed teachers who will provide a developmentally appropriate experience which will prepare our four year olds for Kindergarten. We fully recognize a Pre-K program must be highly engaging and allow our children to explore their creativity. Enrichment opportunities in Art, Music, Library, and Fitness, as well as Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) will be provided each week. We are enthusiastic about this opportunity to provide a Lovejoy education for your youngest Leopards at Puster. The Pre-K students will experience a rich learning environment which will provide them with a firm foundation for their K-12 Lovejoy experience.

Performance Course brings with it a proven track record of championship success. Performance Course offers many different courses from high-intensity to foundational programs. Summer Enrichment Camps

The Summer Enrichment Camps have been finalized, and we are excited to offer opportunities for Pre-K through 12th grade. You will find everything from dodge ball to robotics, and cooking to coding.

Summer Enrichment Camps will be offered in three sessions:

Session I: June 12-16

Session II: June 19-23

Session III: July 10-14

Autism Awareness Month

Sewing Camp

A summer sewing camp is being offered at WSMS. Sewing Basics 101 teaches machine and tool basics while making a pillowcase and PJ's. Sewing Skill Builder 201 will continue developing your sewing skills with an individualized project. There are three weeks in June from which to choose. Spots fill quickly. Schedule change for WSMS tennis next year (Year Around)

Fall

This Fall (2017) all WSMS athletes will have the opportunity for a new Tennis Development Class during first period athletics. This class will be for those athletes that want to mainly focus on Tennis. Parents will transport their tennis athletes to the LHS Tennis Courts at 8:15am. The class will be dismissed at 9:15 am. A bus will transport these athletes back to the WS campus to prepare for their 2nd period class. Those athletes who would like to do other sports would be in off season and transfer over to tennis at semester when the season starts. This would not affect their schedules, as I will offer a before school practice during this time. Also Lou Hervey has an after school program that players can get involved in while playing other sports at WSMS.

Spring (In Season)

The WSMS tennis season will begin in the Spring (2018). Practices are scheduled for 7:30 - 8:30 AM at the LHS Tennis Courts. The tennis athletes will be dismissed @ 8:30 AM to dress and prepare for their bus travel back to WS campus.

Tryouts for the WS Spring Tennis Team will be the second week back from Winter Break (Jan. 15-19). Once the team has been selected, I will have the ladder set on what number each athlete is. The tryout will take place after school from 4:30pm-6:30pm. I am very excited for this opportunity to continue developing our middle school tennis players. Student Absences

For your convenience when your student is absent, you may send an e-mail to our PEIMS clerk, Lori Esser, that will serve as a parent note. Her e-mail address is Lori_Esser@LovejoyISD.net. You are also welcome to call us, but we will require something in writing as well to satisfy the requirement. If your child does receive a note from a doctor's visit, please do send that in as well.

ATTENTION 6th Grade Parents:

There are two vaccinations required by the State of Texas for 7th grade: Tdap (Tetanus booster) and the meningococcal vaccine. If your student receives these vaccines during the school year, please send me a copy of the updated vaccination record. You may email tamara_pierce@lovejoyisd.net or fax it to me: 469-742-8401. This will make your transition to Willow Springs/7th grade much easier if I am able to update their record before the next school year.
