June Issue of Nevada Lawyer Explores Legal Deserts in Silver State
A recent study of legal access across the U.S. by the American Bar Association found an average of nearly four lawyers per 1,000 residents. Nevada is well below that average with 2.4 attorneys for every 1,000 residents. The June issue of Nevada Lawyer magazine examines the state’s “legal deserts” and what is being done to help provide legal access in those areas.
In this issue, in addition to exploring the consequences of Nevada’s legal deserts, another feature looks at programs set up by the William S. Boyd Law School to address legal services providers in the state’s rural areas. The issue also has an article on drafting contracts for rural clients, and a feature on providing legal services to the state’s farmworkers.
As always, the magazine includes regular features such as the president’s message, news and notes, the Nevada Trailblazer profile, and the bar counsel report. Be sure to check out the Nevada Lawyer archives for a lengthy list of back issues.

Still Time to Get Counted for Section Pro Bono Challenge
|
Friday is the last day to volunteer for the Section Pro Bono Challenge. State Bar of Nevada licensees who volunteer through May 31 for service completed in 2024 earn points for the challenge. Points will be counted by volunteering online or by reaching out to a preferred legal aid provider. And remember, you can earn CLE credit for pro bono.
Attorneys can make a difference and feel great for volunteering for pro bono work. Any llawyer can earn points, but if a volunteer lists their section, it will earn points for recognition, including the top volunteer from each of the top 10 sections joining a thank you luncheon with the Nevada Supreme Court and Nevada Court of Appeals.
No time to volunteer? Donate by tomorrow and every cumulative section donation of $500 earns one point for the challenge.
Thanks to the volunteers who have already taken 124 cases and volunteered for 249 Ask-A-Lawyer or Lawyer in the Library sessions!
