Senate Bill 40 has been delayed and will not be heard on Monday, February 5. No biggie, gives us more time to have conversations about our vision for a healthier and safer Colorado. It will be rescheduled to be heard in the next week or two. Stay tuned for more information.
As a reminder, Senate Bill 40 allows for syringe exchanges to operate out of Emergency Departments & for a supervised use site to operate as a program arm of a syringe exchange program.
2. Email Senate President Kevin Grantham to show your SB 40 support
3. Email the SB 40 sponsors & co-sponsors to thank them for their work on making sure that this bill continues to push forward.
4. Share on social media WHY you support SB 40 and why other community members should support it, as well.
5. While we have assumed you have already done this, if not, please email the Senate Committee majority members to show your support for SB 40
6. Talk with your friends and family about why you support harm reduction public health policies in Colorado. 7. Join our individual coalition and invite others to do so, as well.
1. Contact your state senator or representative in the CO State Legislature...for example, My name is X, I live in (insert city/county/zipcode) and I am emailing you today in support of SB 40 and asking that you, as my legislator, vote yes when you have the opportunity!! I strongly support harm reduction public health policies in Colorado and I really, really want to see this bill pass.
2. As Senate President we don't need his YES vote just yet, however right now, we need his support and leadership for a healthier and safer Colorado.
Please contact him:

Thank you for sponsoring and co-sponsoring Senate Bill 40. I join the voices of treatment providers, drug users, recovery community, businesses, faith community, moms, and so many others that want to reduce the amount of overdose deaths in Denver and in the state of Colorado. Coloradans die in our state of overdose every 9 hours and 36 minutes. Syringe exchange out of Emergency Departments and the opportunity for a Denver pilot for supervised use site is the direction that I would like to see Colorado take in the midst of this epidemic. Thank you for supporting these issues for the health and safety of all Coloradans.
4. Post on social media:
Advocating for legislation online via social media is a great way to spread information quickly and inspire others to get out and wave their harm reduction freak flags ... especially for SB 40.
5. If you haven't already contacted the Senate Committee members, please contact the majority members today. Calling is scary, but SO important! Emailing takes a moment, but SO important! So we've come up with some templates for you to work with:
Calling - "My name is X, I live in (city/county/zipcode) and I am calling in support of SB 40 and asking (insert senator's name here) to vote yes! I strongly support harm reduction public health policies in Colorado and I want to see this bill pass."
