SAVE THE DATE for a special MCCF Zoom symposium: September 5 at 7:00 pm on the Attainable Housing Strategies Initiative (AHSI), now before the Council and moving quickly. AHSI would eliminate single-family zoning in most of the county and allow multi-family homes to be built on single family lots in most neighborhoods to increase housing supply and affordability. So far, many residents know little about AHSI, and opportunities to engage councilmembers are closing soon. We will update you with more details later this month, but we wanted to be sure you SAVE THIS DATE. The September 5 symposium will be open to the public and we encourage MCCF delegates to invite their neighborhood residents.
September 5 Symposium Speakers:
Marc Elrich, County Executive, Montgomery County, Maryland
Michele Rosenfeld, Land Use Attorney and former lead attorney for MNCPPC and Montgomery County Planning Board
Dr. Glenn Orlin, experienced planner and engineer and former Deputy Staff Director for the Montgomery County Council.
It is important for delegates to be fully informed and to act as resources in your civic and homeowner associations to explain the proposal and implications to your neighbors. The MCCF hosted senior Planning staff at our April 2024 meeting to explain the proposal, and also hosted former Planning Director Gwen Wright on housing affordability and AHSI in the February 2024 meeting. We are now bringing additional viewpoints into the discussion. For helpful background on AHSI, we encourage you to watch the linked meetings if you did not attend. The Montgomery County Planning Board's Final Report on Attainable Housing Strategies is online here.
