SAN FRANCISCO INTERFAITH COUNCIL

MOURNS THE PASSING OF INTERFAITH PIONEER AND PAST SFIC BOARD MEMBER

IMAM ABU QADIR AL AMIN

It is with deep sadness that the San Francisco Interfaith Council learned of the passing, late yesterday, of longtime interfaith pioneer and Past SFIC Board Member Imam Abu Qadir Al Amin.

According to Muslim tradition and rites, his Janazah, followed by burial, took place today, Friday, April 19, 2024 at 10:30 am, at Five Pillars Cemetery in Livermore, California.

Imam Abu Qadir Al Amin was the longtime Resident Imam for the San Francisco Muslim Community Center, an appointment he received in 1981, by the esteemed Muslim-American religious leader Imam W. Deen Mohamad. In this role he also served as Convenor of the Western Regional Imams from 1995-2010. Concurrently, he served as the Muslim Chaplain at the Federal Prison FCI Dublin, California, and worked at the Center for Juvenile and Criminal Justice as Program Director and Associate Director for 23 years. He will be remembered by his interfaith and civic partners for his activism in City and Statewide social justice issues and as a community organizer.

The San Francisco Interfaith Council extends heartfelt sympathies to Imam Abu Qadir Al Amin's beloved family, the faithful of the San Francisco Muslim Community Center and broader Bay Area Muslim community.
