SALSA CASINO
Rhythmic and expressive, Salsa Cubana, or "Casino," is danced individually, as a couple or in a group. Rueda de Casino is Salsa danced by multiple couples to the arrangement of a caller. New and experienced dancers are invited to learn, practice and become part of a thriving dance community. Beginner and intermediate classes are offered, and a social dance 'practica' is open to all students and the public.
SCHEDULE & CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
4:15-5:15PM INTERMEDIATE RUEDA
Take your Casino to the next level! If you are an experienced Salsa dancer or have previous Rueda experience, this is the class for you. Focus is on reviewing the basics, refining dance technique, and further building your Rueda vocabulary.
5:30-7PM BEGINNER SALSA with RUEDA
In the Beginner Series, basic Rueda steps, patterns, and configurations will be used as a tool and source of inspiration to facilitate Salsa learning and foster the development of social dance partnering skills.
7-9PM PRACTICA
Stay after class to practice your new moves and improve your social dance skills. Instructor Alex Crenshaw will DJ an open dance for students and the public to practice their Salsa, Rueda, and other Latin dance skills. Free for students, $5 for public.
VENUE
The Ballet Center of Ithaca is the official school of the Ithaca Ballet, equipped with two excellent dance studios and amenities.
ATTIRE
Dress comfortably in fitted attire conducive to moving. Street shoes not allowed in studio.
INSTRUCTOR
Alex Crenshaw. Salsa, Rueda de Casino, Bachata and Kizomba Dance Instructor, Performer and Choreographer.
POLICIES
No partner necessary, drop-in welcome, couples need not rotate (except in rueda). Gender free: each student is free to learn the lead or follow role.
COST
Non-students: $75 for series, $140 per couple, $15 drop-in.
Students: $65 for series, $120 per couple, $13 drop-in.
Guarantee your place and save by registering for whole series. Discounts: $15 on series, $10 for students, $10 per couple ($5 each partner), $5 more for continuing students. Multiple discounts apply.
Practica: free for students, $5 for public.

Salsa Libre was formed in 1997 to give the Southern Tier spicy, sensual music for listening and dancing pleasure. The band has captured the sounds of the great salsa, mambo, and merengue bands of Puerto Rico, Cuba, and Santo Domingo. Influences include Roberto Roena, Hector Lavoe, Frankie Ruiz, Ruben Blades, El Gran Combo, Ozomatli. Welcome Salsa Libre to Ithaca-NY! DJ Michael Luis between sets. Toko Imports presents 5-week Latin percussion workshop series for beginner and continuing students taught by Jonathan Kline and Ben Ortiz. Participants learn various rhythms and techniques on congas and an assortment of companion instruments such as cowbells, claves, and shekeres. All instruments are provided; participants are welcome to bring their own. On occasion, we invite other musicians for "jam sessions." All participants receive a coupon for 10% off an entire purchase at Toko Imports. The entire series costs only $35. Payment in advance is required.
