CWPA Member Spotlight: In-Situ offers informed perspectives on water monitoring
In parts two and three of her blog series on sonde deployment, In-Situ Application Development Manager for Surface Water Kerry Caslow walks readers through the process of installing continuous monitoring equipment at two different sites in the Eastern U.S.
CWPA Member Spotlight: Sanborn
Sanborn has been in the mapping business for more than 150 years and offers complete geospatial products and services. The company has four complementary Divisions - Mapping, Applied Geographics, Onsite Services (staff augmentation), and Content sales - that can meet the geospatial needs of the watershed protection community. We collect lidar, oblique and ortho imagery to create maps of elevation, hydrography, land cover, tree canopy, impervious surfaces, 3D buildings, and more. We map demographics and socio-economic data for planning, risk management, and equity analysis. We create GIS dashboards that integrate sensor and weather data for flood prediction and visualization, or measure flood impact, such as FloodSMART, a prototype we built for the State of Texas. And we’re prepared to help you access the federal funding you need through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. You can email our team directly anytime to get answers to your geospatial questions or learn about the federal funding programs we are tracking.

2023 Webcast 4: Realistic Restoration Targets in Urban Areas
May 24th, 2023, 1:00 - 2:30 PM EST
Description: Urban streams experience high stormwater runoff volumes which carry pollutants from roads, lawns and commercial areas. Local governments are required to improve water quality and address impaired biological conditions. Traditional stream restoration methods have been shown to be successful at stabilizing streams, but not at improving water quality or recovering biological resources. In this presentation, Fairfax County Stormwater staff will discuss how regulatory drivers shape outcomes, our current efforts attempting to set realistic goals, adapt restoration methods to protect higher functioning reaches and improve those that are impaired, and establishment of rigorous monitoring programs to measure outcomes.

Speakers: Charles Smith and Jonathan Witt from Fairfax County Stormwater Planning Division
