Project Update: Research, Implementation and Guidance on Roadside Ditch Management in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed
A 2016 report from the Chesapeake Bay Program’s Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee found that improved management of the roadside ditch network could be a cost-effective means of reducing pollution from roads, developed areas, and farmland in many rural and/or un-regulated portions of the Bay watershed. Following the release of this report, the Center for Watershed Protection participated in a Chesapeake Bay Roadside Ditch Management Team to discuss a path forward for defining, crediting and verifying this group of practices. The Center has continued to advance the practice of roadside ditch management through research, implementation and development of guidance. Several projects we have recently been involved with are described below.
CWPA Member Spotlight: Meet Steve Jones
Karen Titus interviews CWPA member, Steve Jones, President and Founder of PAVE TECH, INC.

How did you learn about the CWPA?
I think on a web search for the Chesapeake Bay Watershed, or from following emails from ASCE permeable publications.

Why did you join the CWPA?
To learn about the research of permeable paving for storm water pavements

Tell us a little about your products and how they would be helpful to stormwater professionals
Most Storm Water researchers are not in the flow of cutting edge products, services and techniques for maintaining permeable, pervious, porous pavements

Save your spot for the 2020 National Watershed & Stormwater Conference!
From April 14th to 17th 2020, the Center will hold their annual Watershed and Stormwater Conference in Austin, TX to provide a forum for watershed and stormwater professionals throughout the nation to learn how to increase the resiliency of our communities in response to emerging and persistent threats to our water resources — from headwaters to coasts.

Where do you live?
I used to have trouble answering that question.
According to the U.S. Postal service, I live in Glenside PA 19038, but Glenside doesn’t have a government, school system, or police department. Although it physically resembles a town, it is defined, in part, by a made-up number—a zip code established by the Postal Service for its own convenience. To further muddy the question, the Postal Service lumps other communities into the Glenside zip code, and what most people consider to be Glenside is split between two separate townships...

The Impact of Wildfires on Water
As the climate changes and global temperatures continue to rise, the wildfire season in the United States grows longer. These wildfires are burning hotter, consuming more acres of land, and leaving paths of destruction unlike ever before. Often started by something as small as a spark, wildfires can consume and destroy miles of landscape as well as shift the balance of vital ecosystems. As wildfires continue to grow more and more destructive, we are forced to plan and strategize methods to prevent and contain them.

Webcast 4 : Stormwater Practice Design, Installation and Maintenance

The science of stormwater management is constantly evolving and integrating new and innovative practices is an ongoing process by designers and construction contractors. This webcast will explore available resources for good stormwater design and discuss how to be flexible in the field while meeting multiple objectives. Long-term maintenance can also make or break the performance of a practice. Learn from maintenance expert’s ways to rapidly conduct maintenance inspections and needed maintenance tasks. The emphasis of this webcast will be on low-impact development and green infrastructure practices.
