How did you get started working on watersheds?
Ever since 7
th
grade where my science fair project was on phosphorus in the drainage ditch along my grandfather’s farm, I’ve had an interest in non-point source pollution. Water has been my career interest, starting with understanding the Clean Water Act through total maximum daily loads.
What is your favorite part about working for the Center?
It’s been a great opportunity to work for the Center on nationwide clean water and stormwater challenges. I especially enjoy meeting new people dealing with Clean Water Act issues, and seeking innovative ways to understand and correct non-point source water pollution.

What was your favorite TV show when growing up?
Sea Hunt (starring Lloyd Bridges) or Flipper (about a dolphin friend of a boy in the Florida Keys). These underwater shows stuck with me. I learned SCUBA at 16, majored in Oceanography in college and now live not far from the ocean.
Which sea creature is your favorite?
The Clown Fish (Nemo) is my favorite. I had a salt water aquarium after college and really enjoyed watching the clown fish at it sea anemone home.
What is the nerdiest thing you do in your spare time?
Read blogs about Apple computing technologies and the newest tech for Apple.
What is your favorite river?
The New River in Jasper County, SC. It’s a blackwater river about 35 miles long a couple of miles from my home. Its headwater swamps are beautiful with huge cypress and gum trees. At its outlet to the coastal water are remnant rice fields from the 18

and 19
th
centuries.
