Marlyn Argueta interviews Bryan Seipp,
Watershed Manager/Professional Forester
.
How did you get started working on watersheds?
I grew up going to the Adirondack Mountains for family vacations, so being outdoors is in my blood. I worked on farms and later landscaping when I was in high school and college and I wanted to find a job that allowed me to work outside and so I pursued a career in forestry. I have always had a great interest in the ecosystem services of trees and forests especially as they relate to protecting our fresh water systems.
What is your favorite part about working for the Center?
The Center is a fantastic place for me because I can purse this topic through research, planning, and implementation, while pairing my skill set with the diverse knowledge base and skill sets of my CWP colleagues.
Now for the silly questions. At which store would you like to max-out your credit card?
Pretty much any Mountain bike shop or Scuba Diving shop, I can do some serious damage in those types of stores.
What was your favorite TV show when growing up?
Dukes of Hazard, A-Team, and Airwolf were my favorites growing up.
Which sea creature is your favorite?
I have had an awe-inspiring experience with sea turtles at 115’ deep while diving, but had a chance encounter with a manta ray while diving in the Bahamas that I will never forget. Both are favorites of mine.
What is your favorite river?
Moose River in the Adirondack Mountains of New York State.
If you could have any one superpower, which would you choose?
The power of flight
(How 'bout the power to kill a yak from 200 yards away...
with mind bullets! That's telekinesis)-
If you know where this line came from we would probably get along.
If you won the lottery, what would be the first thing you would buy?
A nice cabin on a lake in the Adirondacks with a dock and a boat and plenty of room for family and friends to visit and relax.
What do you want to make sure you do before you die?
A live-a-board dive trip to Chuuk Lagoon, and a long tour of New Zealand are at the top of my bucket list.
