Hello running and walking friends!

Labor Day has come and gone, with cool autumn days (slowly) heading our way. It's time to get up, get out, and get moving!

I don't know about you, but my news-feed is filled with AI-generated fitness advice.

It's sweet of the computers to try to tell us how to live, but if you're looking for actual-factual human beings to run, walk, or ride with, you can check out this list of 21 fitness groups here in Southern Arizona.

We start with a description of our own Workout Group, celebrating our 27th year of coaching runners of all ages and all abilities.

Then we offer 5 reasons to find a group and 5 things NOT to do in a running group. (We wrote those items ourselves; no AI for us!)

The bulk of this email, though, is a list of 20 other groups in the area. We've posted the list on our website, but if you want a referral, let us know and we'll hook you up.

To our out-of-town friends: if you want to find a group or coach near you, let us know -- we can get you in touch with well-trained RRCA-certified coaches and running groups all around the United States and abroad.

Happy training all!

Top 5 Reasons to Run with a Group

People give these top reasons for wanting to run with a group or a coach:

  1. Stuck in a training rut and want to spice things up
  2. New to the sport and want to learn from others
  3. Training for a race and want some accountability
  4. Want to push yourself beyond your comfort zone
  5. Want to meet people, make new friends, and be part of a community

Top 5 Things NOT to Do When Running with a Group

If you join a group, don't . . .

  1. Be late and expect them to wait: set your alarm and be 10 minutes early so you can pee, poop, and stretch ahead of time.
  2. Smell bad: it's OK to emit a gnarly scent when you're running alone, but wear a fresh t-shirt and maybe throw on some deodorant when running in a group.
  3. One-step everyone: find the right pace and stick with it -- you don't prove anything by being a step ahead of everyone.
  4. Wear headphones: the whole point is to be with people, make new friends, and be part of a community, so save the headphones for the treadmill.
  5. Block the way: when running in a group, be respectful of others on the path, roadway, or trail.
