CONCORD, N.C. - When 14-year-old Roy Hayes began the 2017 racing season, he was working toward finding his way to victory lane in the team's NASCAR late model car. Mission accomplished. Three times.

The oldest of three racing brothers, Roy has parked the Hayes Motorsports No. 15 in victory lane on three separate occasions in limited late model competition at Caraway Speedway in Asheboro, North Carolina. He has also competed in the Pro All-Stars Series (PASS) South Tour, where he sits fifth in points in his rookie season in the series, behind defending champion Tate Fogleman, who is currently in fourth.

The laid-back racer also accomplished another item on his bucket list that he wasn't expecting this summer when he won for the first time at Charlotte Motor Speedway racing one of the team's legends cars in the Summer Shootout Series. Roy wasn't expecting to compete in that series, but made the most of the opportunity when it came by.

"It's been a really fun season so far," he said. "I was expecting to race the late model cars and run some with our mini outlaws at Millbridge. My younger brothers, George and Stanley, were racing at the Summer Shootout with their cars but we hadn't planned for me to race there at all. I got behind the wheel of one of our backup legends cars and was pretty fast. We ended up getting a win, which was huge for me to accomplish. Some of the top racers in NASCAR have won at the Summer Shootout so it was pretty cool to add my name to the list. Farbo Motorsports has come on board with George and Stanley with the legends and bandolero cars."

Roy was just as excited about what the team has accomplished in the late model cars.

"I'm still learning a lot about how to be fast with the late models. Getting the wins in the NASCAR late model at Caraway definitely pumped up my confidence, but the super late model is a much different type of car. We've run all the PASS South shows with that and we're fifth in points. For me in that series, it's about just trying to be fast, consistent and finish races. Kevin Hollenbach came on as our crew chief for the late model program. He was with Harrison Burton last year. I've been trying to learn as much as I can from him and just get better every time out. We have two big races coming up that we're excited about. The North-South Shootout at Concord and the Mason-Dixon Mega Meltdown are both really big races and that means I can learn against some of the top competition in the country."

Younger brother George moved up to legends cars this season and has been making progress each race, and youngest brother Stanley continues to be competitive for wins in his bandolero. The team has cut back a bit on its dirt-track program with the winged mini-outlaws, but the cars are fast whenever they decide to compete.

With a new website online at www.hayesmotorsports.net and some major shows still left on the schedule for all three racing Hayes siblings, the team's shop will be busy right through the winter season in the Southeast region.
