Good News!

I spoke with the IDOT engineer and he advised me Route 60 is scheduled to open tomorrow morning (September 13) after the morning rush hour.

Upcoming Events at Fremont Township

Mobile Passport Event September 16 from 9:00 am til 1:30 pm.

Recycle-o-rama September 23 from 9 am til noon.

We are looking forward to our recycle-o-rama and shredding event on Saturday, September 23 from 9 am til noon. Bring your household electronics, shoes, stuffed animals, clothing, belts, scarves, hats pursed, duffle bags, backpacks, bed and table linens, musical instruments, sports equipment, smoke detectors and co detectors, automotive batteries, fire extinguishers, pet leashes and collars, eye glasses, hearing aids, keys, books, American flags, clean empty pill bottles, yarn, dvd's and cd's and bikes. We will also be shredding confidential documents.

You may bring the equivalent of 3 boxes to shred. Staples and paper clips are fine. The most efficient way is to place your items in a paper grocery bag. No plastic bags. To keep the line moving, you will not be able to exit your car and watch the shredding.

This shredding event is for documents only. Please recycle your coupons, magazines and junk mail with your weekly recycling. They will not be accepted.

Do not leave your car.

We will not accept any binders or hanging file folders or electronic items because they catch on fire in the truck. We look forward to seeing you and appreciate your patience.

Help With Medicare

Fremont Township offers a free service to Fremont Township residents to help sign up for Medicare and Medicare Part D. Each year you should be evaluating which prescription plan best suits your needs based on the medications you are on.

We have found that many people never evaluate their prescription drug care plan. You should be looking at this every year. Our residents have found comfort in having help to make sure they are in the right program.

We are taking appointments from October 16 through December 6. Changes made to your Prescription Drug plan will take effect on January 1, 2024.

If you would like to make an appointment with the Ship Counselor, please call Nancy at 847 223-2847.

All appointments will be by phone as our counselor is remote.

You will need to have an online account with Medicare at mymedicare.gov and a list of your current prescriptions before making an appointment, as you will need them when you speak with the Ship Counselor.

If you need help creating on-line access, let Nancy know when you call.

If you are turning 65 and need help signing up for Medicare, the counselor can also help you with that.

Eco Corner By Jen Cameron

Fremont Township includes pockets of natural wetlands and wooded areas that support local wildlife. Deer and other native animals instinctively move around our area looking for food, water, shelter, or a place to raise their young. What wildlife sometimes does not do is pay attention to vehicles whizzing by!  Animals may be nosing around on the shoulder, trying to cross, or meandering along the middle ~ especially around dawn and dusk. The following tips are worth reviewing for drivers of all ages and experience:

* Follow speed limits, and scan the sides of the road as you drive

* Keep in mind that where there is one animal, there are probably others

* Be especially cautious on two-lane roads bordered by woods or fields, or where a body of water is nearby

Motorists need to be on the lookout for wildlife during all seasons and at all times (even in construction zones).  Stay alert behind the wheel, use your bright lights, and slow down when necessary. Two- and four-legged residents call Fremont Township home!
