Roses are here!

Roses – they’re romantic, they’re stunning in a vase, and many have a dreamy fragrance. Plant them in your garden beds, your shrub borders, and tumbling over arbors and fences. Fill your garden with color or plant white roses for a showy evening garden.

We received over 540 roses this week and our rose area is overflowing with gorgeous choices. Shop our David Austin English Roses, Hybrid Teas, Grandifloras, Floribundas, Climbing Roses, Shrub Roses, Knock outs, and Drift Roses.

Eastern Redbud/ Cercis canadensis - now 25% off*!

Eastern redbuds (Cercis canadensis) are delightful understory trees in the legume family that are native to WNC and much of the eastern half of the USA. In spring, their bare stems are adorned with pink to purple (and rarely, white) blooms, followed by heart-shaped foliage ranging from gold to green to deep red.

Tolerant of full sun to partial shade, they are widely adaptable. A lovely specimen for smaller spaces and good in pollinator gardens and nestled in woodlands at the forest edge. Plant in mass for a dramatic flower show in spring.

There are many cultivars available, including the award-winning ‘Forest Pansy’ (pictured) with incredible red-purple fresh foliage and ‘Ruby Falls’ with a superb weeping form and red to dark purple foliage. The flowers are edible and can be enjoyed in salads or left on the tree for beauty.

According to The Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation, Eastern Redbuds are important for native bees by providing habitat and/or materials for nest construction. They are also larval host plants, and the bean pods provide valuable food for birds and other creatures.

Redbud trees* are currently 25% off! Take advantage of this rare opportunity to grab some of these beauties at a discounted price.

*With the exception of our 3-gallon Redbuds - they remain at their regular price

Tree Plantings

Arbor Day was begun in 1872 with the purpose of encouraging individuals and groups to plant, nurture, and celebrate trees. It is officially the last Friday in April but can be held at other times depending on best planting times. Earth Day (April 22nd) was founded in 1970 as a day of education about environmental issues and as a way to provide for a greener, cleaner world.

Planting trees and other plants are great ways to observe Earth Day and Arbor Day. Planting in memory or honor of someone can be special. Several years ago, a lady in town planted a sweetgum tree in honor of her 50th birthday. Bill and the choir he sings in at church recently planted a dogwood tree at the home of a member who had passed away. The Town of Weaverville is planning an Arbor Day celebration on Friday, April 26th at 11:00 AM. An oak tree will be planted at the Town Hall in memory of Dottie Sherrill, former mayor and council member. The tree will serve as a symbol of her dedication to the Town of Weaverville.

Cleaning up, reducing waste, planting, and involving children in these activities are ways to help make for a greener, cleaner world. The Garden Center is jam-packed with trees, shrubs, and other plants including natives. Plant something in observance of Earth and/or Arbor Day!
