WELCOME COACH OTLEY

Sam Otley R'11 has been hired as Roncalli’s new head football coach. Otley is the 11th head coach in the football program’s history and the first Roncalli alumnus for this position.

For the last eight seasons, Otley has served as an assistant coach for Roncalli and as the offensive coordinator for the past two seasons. He has coached both running backs and the offensive line. During his tenure at Roncalli, he was an assistant coach for two state championship teams (2016 & 2020). Otley also served as an assistant coach for the boys track and field program at Roncalli for two years.

“Roncalli is a special place that’s had a significant impact on me throughout my life. It’s an honor to lead the program as head coach, and I’m excited for the future of Roncalli Royal Football,” said Otley.

Prior to being an assistant coach at Roncalli, Otley coached football at Franklin College and North Carolina Wesleyan College.

As a student at Franklin College, Otley played four seasons under Indiana Football Hall of Fame inductee Mike Leonard. Otley was a four-time conference champion and advanced to the second round of the NCAA DIII playoffs during three seasons. He was named a team captain as a senior.

As a student at Roncalli, Otley played football for all four years under Indiana Football Hall of Fame inductee Bruce Scifres. In his senior season, he was selected to the North-South All-Star Game and selected as a team captain.

“Naming Sam Otley as our head football coach comes with great excitement! He's a long-time assistant coach in our program and has been mentored by some outstanding high school and college coaches during his football career,” said Roncalli Athletic Director, David Lauck R'94. “He is a Roncalli alumnus, understands and lives our mission and vision and bleeds red, white and blue!”

“We are excited to have Coach Otley leading our Royals on and off the field,” said Roncalli principal Kevin Banich R'09. “He understands the rich tradition of Catholic football and is ready to prepare our students for both Friday night lights and life beyond high school.”

Starting in August, Otley will teach advanced physical conditioning at Roncalli and work with the athletic department managing the strength and conditioning program.

Roncalli opens its 56th season of football when it travels to Southport on August 23 at 7:00 PM.

NEWMAN CONNECTION

Parents and Students of the Class of 2024:

As a school community, we work every day to establish a strong faith community and to foster a love for our Church. After our students graduate, we recognize the need to support our graduates in staying connected to the Catholic Church. In our continued commitment to our student's spiritual growth, we partner with Newman Connection.

Newman Connection’s High School Outreach Program is dedicated to connecting graduating high school students to the Catholic campus ministry of their chosen college (whether it is a Catholic college or not). In an effort to bridge the gap in the transition between the community here at Roncalli and the Catholic faith community of our student's chosen college, Roncalli will provide our students' names and emails to the Newman Connection to invite them to connect to the Catholic campus ministry on campus - whether that is an invitation to come to Mass, to participate in a service opportunity or to receive pastoral support.

If you are not interested in participating in this program, please contact Mary Sheets msheets@roncalli.org by graduation day. Please feel free to contact Katie Hibner khibner@roncalli.org Roncalli Campus Minister, if you have any questions regarding Newman Connection’s High School Outreach Program.
