CANNED FOOD DRIVE SUCCESS
Last week, we had our annual Canned Food Drive during the week of August 18th, with great success! Thank you to the Roncalli community who supported this year’s event. Students, faculty and staff collected a total of 3,100 food items along with $33,632.75 in cash donations. The total of money and cans collected would equal 70,365 cans. These donations will be distributed to local food pantries that serve the Indianapolis community.
Student council officer sophomore Cecelia Schoettle shared her thoughts about the Canned Food Drive, “The canned food drive always proves Roncalli's devotion as a school to serve and provide for those in our own community!”
Sarah Rose, Roncalli chemistry teacher and student council moderator, said, “I am always amazed at the outpouring of support by our student body. Time after time, they rise to the occasion and show us the amount of love and care they have for the community around them. I am very proud of our Royal family and their effort to help out those in need.”

NEW FAMILY REQUIRED MEETING
As we embark on this school year with many new families joining our community, we feel that it is important to our overall partnership that we explore together “common ground” for us to work from as we share in your child’s (children's) journey during their high school years. Parents or guardians who have their first child attending Roncalli this fall are invited to join Principal Kevin Banich and Dean of Students Tim Crissman for a meeting to discuss the Roncalli High School Experience as well as teenage behavioral trends. Ultimately, we desire to share our experiences as secondary educators with our parents or guardians, the primary educators, on how we can work together to help your child grow into all that God calls them to be.
Meetings will be held:
September 11, 2024, English 7:00 PM, Roncalli Auditorium (Door 5)
September 11, 2024, Spanish 7:00 PM, Student Life Center (Doors 3 and 5)
September 18, 2024, English 7:00 PM, Roncalli Auditorium (Door 5)
September 18, 2024, Burmese 7:00 PM, Student Life Center (Doors 3 and 5)
During these meetings, we will discuss student life, managing the productive struggle, accompanying students/families in times of need, behavioral trends and substance use, and the woes of social media. At the end of our meeting, there is a question-and-answer session open to any questions that families may have. Our New Family Parent Meetings that have been conducted over the past 14 years have received positive reviews from parents. Please invest an hour and forty-five minutes of your time to help cultivate our desired partnership with your family as we work together to help your child grow academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually.
Please direct all questions to our dean of students, Tim Crissman, at (317) 787-8277, extension 223 or tcrissman@roncalli.org.
Note: Parents who have had a freshman student previously at Roncalli are not required to attend one of these meetings.
| |
Each week, a team of school officials conducts a confidential meeting to discuss the needs of our students. The team seeks to identify students experiencing physical, social, emotional or spiritual difficulties and to remove any barriers that interfere with student learning. The team offers these students affirmation, support, direction, counseling and community referrals. In addition, the team leads programs designed to improve the well-being of our community by providing resources, offering activities and presenting education on healthy living.
If you have any questions about STAND or have any concerns of the mental health of any student, please email assistant principal Michael Wantz at mwantz@roncalli.org.

SEPTEMBER 21, 2024
GUEST POLICY - PLAN AHEAD!
Students who wish to bring a non-Roncalli student as a guest to the Homecoming Dance must plan ahead. The new guest pass requires additional signatures to be acquired before a student can purchase a ticket for a guest to attend the Roncalli Homecoming Dance. The new form has been emailed out to all students and posted to each student’s class Canvas page. It can also be found here. Please feel free to contact Mr. Crissman or Mr. Wantz with any questions.
DRESS CODE REMINDERS
Students are advised to err on the side of modesty and formality. Any student that is violating the policy will not be permitted to enter the event until his/her attire meets the proper requirements.
Male students are encouraged to contact Mr. Crissman with any questions concerning their attire before purchasing their outfits. Here are the male attire expectations from the handbook:
- Long pants and collared shirts are required.
- Shirts must be worn appropriately at all times.
Female students are encouraged to contact Mrs. Reel with any questions concerning their attire before purchasing their outfits. Here are the female attire expectations from the handbook:
- May wear a dress, skirt/top or pantsuit.
- May not reveal all contours of the body.
- Dresses shall be one-piece with straps over the shoulders and shall be longer than their fingertips. Furthermore, dresses shall cover all parts of the body so that no part of the midriff or cleavage is exposed.

Have you picked up your Roncalli yard sign? There are still plenty available, so get yours today! The majority of the signs are at the main entrance of the stadium, so make sure to grab yours the next time you’re on campus.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FROM THE RONCALLI ROYAL CAFETERIA
The Roncalli Cafeteria participates in the National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast Program. We receive money from the government for every school lunch and school breakfast that we sell. Also, if a family is eligible, their students may receive either free meals or reduced-priced meals, as well as textbook assistance. Some families are eligible because they are directly certified through a government program. Another way to qualify is by submitting an application with household information and income information.
If you received a letter saying your child/children are eligible for free or reduced meals and textbook assistance for this school year, you don’t need to do anything more. But if your child was on free or reduced meals last year and you have not heard that they are again eligible for the benefit this year, you must fill out a new application and submit it by September 19, or your child will be changed back to paid meal status and be charged the full $4.00 per lunch daily.
To apply for free/reduced meals, go to mymealtime.com, where there is a link to the application.
If you have trouble applying, please call or email our office. We are always happy to answer any questions you have about our food service.
Contact Clare Halfaker at chalfaker@roncalli.org or Jeff Richardson at jrichardson@roncalli.org or call (317)788-4099.

FALL BREAK & SPRING BREAK POLICY
School policy does not provide for any early start of, or extension to, either fall or spring break. No student will be excused from school on any day(s) the week before or the week after fall or spring break. Any student’s absence on these days will be considered unexcused. An unexcused absence means that one point will be deducted from the student’s cumulative grade in each class at the end of that grading period. Teachers are not required to make special provisions for students who are unexcused. Students absent because of illness on the day(s) preceding and/or immediately following fall or spring break will be required to bring a doctor’s excuse to the Attendance Officer upon their return to school.
CYO HIRING STUDENT WORKERS
CYO needs a few high school workers to assist with running the gym during the CYO sports seasons. Workers will help run the concession, work the gate and run the scoreboard. Pay is $10/hour, and anyone interested can email Kerry Lynch at klynch@cyoarchindy.org.
