The second-annual Plant Swap was a great success. The free raffle of a Sprouts $30 gift certificate was won by Diane Yeoman, a newly arrived neighbor. Almost all the plants got new homes. The business meeting was heavy with serious issues:
1) Grant Road parcels and planting the empty lots.
2) Traffic Circle at Linden and Cherry, approval to seek bids. Jeff Park must fund the traffic circle construction under a city permit. Estimated cost of 9-10K.
3) No F-35 fly overs: letter approved
4) Meeting scheduled with the city to discuss Jefferson Park's NPZ.

Tax-deductible Donations to your Neighborhood
|
If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation to the neighborhood projects through the Friends of Jefferson Park, Inc.
1) Click on the link below to download a form.
2) Mail a check to the address listed on the form
3) You will receive a receipt for tax purposes.
Among the projects being considered are the Campbell Entrance Signs, the traffic circle at Linden and Cherry, the Little Free Library at Vine and Lester, and the Greening of the orphan plots Park to Santa Rita.
This neighborhood does much with volunteer work. However, city permit fees and construction and fabrication of items must be paid for
by the neighborhood. Your neighborhood non-profit (Friends) is able to support such enhancement projects with your help. Consider a donation--big or small, it all adds up.

See Something----Say Something!
|
A recent report on
NSN website
shows 8 burglaries for the month of April, one trespassing and two suspicious person reports in the Jefferson Park Neighborhood. These rates seemed high, so JPNA secretary called the West Side TPD Division. The community resource officer said the community was experiencing a spike in crime.
However, Officer Monica VanNorman, Community Outreach Officer TPD
West Division, 837-7241,
went on to say, anyone seeing anything should immediately call 911. No one should feel unsure or fear over-reporting. Often your call may help with tracking another incident.
Protect yourself and your neighbors by being watchful and reporting. The Grant Road project may bring many strangers through the neighborhood. If you are concerned please call 911.

Spring is bee time again. If you have a swarm that needs moving you can find recommended bee movers at
the Tucson & Southern Arizona Beekeepers Society - web page: southernazbeekeepers.org) for a list of bee keepers that will remove hives and swarms and relocate to new hives, etc.

Historic Neighborhood - NPZ
|
You live in an
Historic Neighborhood. In 2009,after much fundraising and research, Jefferson Park became the 31st Historic Neighborhood in Tucson. What that means to you is that if your home is a contributing property, you will receive a substantial break in your property taxes as long as you do not make any significant changes to your street side view.
In addition, Jefferson Park is one of two neighborhoods who worked with the city to create a
Neighborhood Preservation Zone (NPZ). Now other zoning rules are in place to maintain the historic integrity of the neighborhood. Along with the Neighborhood Design Manual, also created with the city, Jefferson Park will retain its uniqueness over time. Additions and changes to a residence are reviewed carefully by the city. The Neighborhood Assn continues to work with the city to interpret and execute the NPZ document. The neighborhood is in continuing discussions with the city about the recent allowance of a front yard swimming pool.
Only neighborhoods which have historic status or are in the process of the nomination may apply for an NPZ.

The red tag committee reports this data for April. It reveals that the number of calls for loud parties is down from 2016 with no red tags. Data collection began in September 2015 so we are now able to make year to year comparisons.

Map of the "orphan" parcels from Park to Santa Rita
|
for a map of the landscape proposal for the blocks from Park to Santa Rita parcels provided to us by David Burbank, TDOT directof or the Grant Road Project. You will see the alignment moving from 6 lanes back to 4 at Sant Rita and the positioning of the sidewalks and the landscape. Jefferson Park is asking to be able to place native plants north of the alley to provide some visual mitigation while we await the return of the construction in 2021-23. Five to seven years is significant growth on mesquite trees!!

Edison Plaza clean-up on May 20 - 8:30am
|
Mark your calendars!
The next clean-up at Edison Plaza (corner of Edison and Campbell) is Saturday, May 20. Come help out, the more hands the better! We have bags from Tucson Clean and Beautiful. Meet at 8:30 am.
Also, morning walkers, dog walkers etc. Please keep an eye on our little parklet.
If you see signs of squatters, bedding, etc., please call 911 and ask that a patrol visit the park. The clean-up committee has notified Westside Police Division of what is a growing problem in the parklet. TPD encouraged neighbors to call the 911 number whenever they see a problem. It seems the cozy corners of our parklet are inviting some very unsavory and illegal behavior.
Special thanks to the TPD officer who cleaned out the "camp" April 30.
