The Parks and Recreation Department is wishing a happy retirement to long time department employee Brenda Suchenek whose last day of work was Wednesday, April 24.

Brenda has worked in a variety of capacities for the department, including Park Monitor for ten years, and more recently at the Nature Center where she was a seasonal assistant naturalist for ten years before being promoted to the Naturalist for the last seven years.

During her time, Brenda poured her heart and soul into improving the Nature Center from helping with modernizing the facility through interior and exterior renovations to developing new programs such as the very popular Birthday Parties and Archery.

Although Brenda will be gone from the building, her efforts have set the Nature Center and Parks and Recreation Department up for continued success and growth well into the future.

On behalf of the entire Parks and Recreation Department, thank you Brenda and best wishes in your newest chapter of life!

Did you know about 38% of the population can donate blood, but only 5% do?!

Let's move the needle and save local lives at an upcoming blood drive at the Sterling Heights Community Center on May 2 or May 21.

Also, to ensure a successful blood donation, remember to start now and eat iron-rich foods: red meat, chicken, seafood, beans, quinoa, spinach, chickpeas, lentils, peas and pumpkin seeds. Also, vitamin C helps to absorb the iron!
