Poetry Contest Prize Ceremony & Reading

There will be a prize ceremony and poetry reading at the library in recognition of the winners of April's poetry contest. Anyone who submits a poem may read their entry as long as the subject matter is appropriate for general audiences. All prize winners will be invited to attend.

Harmonica for Beginners Workshop
Saturday, May 5
1 pm-2:30 pm
Master harmonica player Mike Rogers and his wife Beverly will teach a beginning harmonica workshop for adults and children ages 9 & up. By the end of the workshop you will have the basic skills to learn more songs on your own. There is a $3 fee for the harmonica, which you get to keep!
Come learn harmonica from this renowned musician who has opened for Emmy Lou Harris, Rush, The Eagles, and more. Space is limited,

to ensure a space, walk-ins accepted on a space available basis.

Life Coaching Event: How to Develop a Meditation Practice
In today's busy world, it is often difficult to find any time at all to quiet your mind. Join Master Life Coach Diane MacKinnon, M.D. for this interactive presentation where we will practice some simple meditation techniques you can do every day. We'll also discuss the obstacles to a meditation practice and we'll focus on strategies to overcome those obstacles. Develop the practice now and it will serve you every day of your life.

Cookbook and Recipe Club

Love to cook and bake? Join us as we sample and discuss recipes from popular cookbooks and food themes! Prepare a recipe from this month's topic, then engage with others about your recipe adventures. And of course, lots of food tastings included!
For the May 9th meeting, we will be baking PIES from Teeny's Tour of Pie by Teeny Lamothe!

Big Bay Sailor, Songs of the Sea

Portsmouth folk band Big Bay Sailor will perform some traditional and contemporary songs inspired by ships, sailors, oceans, and tall tales.

for a day of writing and relaxation. Activities will include writing exercises as well as time for individual projects. There is a $25 fee for this workshop and pre-registration is required. The fee will include morning coffee, a box lunch, and some Writer's Swag!

Join Chef Oonagh Williams for a photographic journey of her experiences in Lithuania and its history. Lithuanian cookbooks, heritage magazines and tourism along with a scrapbook of her time in Lithuania will be available for browsing. Help yourself to a delicious buffet of Lithuanian dishes, all gluten-free.

Mind to Mind With Preston Heller, Mentalist
Thursday May 31, 7pm
Heller will not tell you what a mentalist does: he will show you! The audience is guaranteed to have a unique, personal experience with the "unseen", including thought implantation or 'influence', revealing of information known only to the spectator, predictions, and much more.
One hundred percent of proceeds from this library presentations will be donated to local food pantries. Heller requests that audience members please bring non-perishable food items to donate.
Recommended for ages 12 and up.
Register to reserve a seat. Walk-ins welcome if space is available.

A special relationship...
Become a Friend of the Rodgers Memorial Library by joining a group of volunteers who support a variety of activities including the purchase of the 3D Printer, the Telescope, learning modules and other equipment for the children's room; award the Leonard A. Smith Memorial Scholarship; provide funding for the Summer Reading Program, movie licenses, Santa photos, author forums and a variety of Humanities Council programs.
Choose from activities including being a Santa's Helper, Second Hand Prose "librarians", celebrating National Library Week with library staff, or participate in a variety of other opportunities.
The Friends have supported the Hudson library system for over 35 years and were instrumental in focusing on the need to build a new home for expanded services which culminated in the construction and opening of the new library donated by the Rodgers family in 2009.
The Friends are a 501(c)(3) organization, have business meetings five times a year to plan for activities and form necessary sub-committees. Tax-deductible annual membership dues are $10 (individual), $20 (family), $30 (patron) or $50 (business).
