2022 BEST Protobot Builder's

Robotics Success

We've been thrilled to have Simon volunteer for almost 10 years with BEST including in 2022 as our Protobot builder. He is competing this spring with the Brute Force #2240 FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team from DSST Montview High School.

Brute Force team:

  • 36 Members and 4 mentors met every week through the 2023 school year for 20 hours,
  • Designed and built their robot “Moonwalker” over 8 weeks.
  • Their fundraising covers ALL the team's significant FRC expenses including materials to build the robot, machines and tools for fabrication, FRC entry fees, and team and mentor travel expenses.

Simon is in his second year with the Brute Force team:

  • Took on a leadership role by mentoring the new members on his team.
  • Became the safety captain.
  • Designed, CAD'd and built a major component of the team’s robot.

2023 Brute Force Team's Outstanding Successes:

  • Finished in First Place and earned the team's first blue FRC Winner's Banner at the Utah Regional Competition against 40+ teams.
  • Won the FRC Quality Award TWICE; first at the Utah Regional Competition and again at the Colorado Regional Competition. FRC Quality Award celebrates the machine’s robustness in concept and fabrication
  • As a 2023 Regional winner, they qualified to compete in the 2023 FRC Championship in Houston in April.

We wish Simon and the rest of the Brute Force Team all the best at the FRC Championship.

OUTREACH

Women In STEM Alumnae Network

We were excited to be invited to participate in the University of Denver Women in STEM alumnae network virtual meeting in March.

Attending the meeting were about 20 women most of whom graduated recently from the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics or the Ritchie School of Engineering and Computer Science.

The exciting projects underway at Sierra Space including their Dream Chaser® Spaceplane were shared by a current employee. Information about their aerospace work was enthusiastically received by those attending.

We presented a quick overview of BEST Robotics and the opportunities for volunteering to inspire the next generation of students. We plan to present more volunteer details at a future meeting closer to our fall events.

The volunteer sheet at the button below was shared and we ask you to share this sheet with anyone interested in volunteering with us.
