God of peace and healing,

We ask you to be a source of hope and strength for those who are struggling to live under systems of oppression that seek to harm rather than heal. We ask that you bless those who are trying to make their way in a world that keeps them from becoming the best version of themselves. We pray for those who struggle with the pain of mental illness and we ask for healing and hope. So many of your people are suffering with burdens that they keep hidden from the world and we ask that you grant them peace. Amen

Study About The Sermon On The Mount Begins Monday

We began a new bible study that focuses on the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5-7. We will continue to meet in the multipurpose room on Mondays at 1 pm.

We will look at the historical, literary, and cultural context, as well as the text itself.

For example, does the SM stand alone, or is it better understood as an extension or replacement of the 10 commandments?

What does blessed mean?

How is it possible that the poor in spirit are blessed?

Yoga For Everyone!

Sunday, June 2, 9-10 am

Come BREATHE and MOVE before church! The first Sunday of each month, starting in May, we will have a 1-hour, ALL levels, free yoga class from 9:00-10:00. Parents, bring your kids to Spiritual Play and enjoy an hour to yourself. Bring a mat if you have one, or you can borrow one of ours, and wear something comfy! Our instructor, Chelsea, has experience teaching yoga to all ages and abilities and would love to get to share the gift of yoga with you!

PRESCHOOL NEWS AND HAPPENINGS

Our preschool is winding down and their summer camp programing is winding up. The teachers will be celebrated. Many families have renewed their registration for next year. Some families are moving on. The families that are moving on are doing so because their children have aged into elementary school or public education school systems are offering preschool which creates economic and/or logistic efficiencies for their families. We wish all of our families well and if they have passed through our doors they will always have a safe home here.

Liz Curry has been our preschool director for the past four years. She stepped down from being president of our church governing board to lead our preschool through a time of leadership crisis. Just when things began to settle down we were hit with COVID. Again, Liz Curry provided calm and strong leadership. She is retiring this Spring and Jean-Marie Cavanaugh will be our new director.

I encourage you to send them notes of thanks and encouragement for their leadership and express what our preschool means to us as a congregation.

Scrappin' and Craftin'

A group of energetic and artsy people are getting together to create, eat, and fellowship. Join them May 17-18.

Blood Drive

The American Red Cross Blood Drive Sunday is June 23, 2024. More information and opportunities to sign up are coming but it is not too soon to put on your calendar.

The scope of their work is to oversee the process of moving Shadow Rock UCC into an organizational model that is sustainable and adaptive, with the motivation that the preservation and promotion of our core values, vision, and mission are key to the survival and thriving of Shadow Rock.

WE ARE RECRUITING FOR ART SHOW 2024, MAYBE!

Everyone is in agreement that our 50th Anniversary Art Show was a great event that celebrated our core values, our community, and local artists. All of us want to do it again but we remain open to other possibilities as we explore potential leadership for this Fall 2024 event. Shadow Rock's governing board is hanging on to this idea and exploring ways to move it forward. Let them know what you think and are willing to do.
