The Rock on Fishing Report

Light tackle, fly-fishing and family fishing the Chesapeake Bay

Middle Bay March 15, 2024 Fishing Report

Trophy Rockfish

March is trophy season #1.

There is no targeting striped bass from 4/1/2024 to 5/15/2024.So last chance to fish for these great fish is March.

MARCH TROPHY STRIPER fishing is halfway over and has been good at times and very frustrating at times.

March weather has been up and down. Lots of BIG wind and rain. Water temps are getting up and the last few weeks should be good.

March is the time to get your personal best!

Some of the same winter patterns are working. Might be birds working but using the electronics on contours and structure has produced great trophies.

Lots of different metal jigs and spoons work this time of year. The fish can be 60’ deep. But BIG BAITS = BIG FISH G-eye jig 1oz and 1.5 oz jig heads with 7’-8’ Z-man plastics are what the big fish want and can be used if the fish are deep or on top.

These fish can be caught on fly rods!! Just have to be ready when they are up or use sinking line if they are deep.

FLY FISHING …SHAD…SHAD…SHAD

It is time for the spring Shad run on the rivers of the Chesapeake Bay.

We will be doing charters for both fly and spin fishing for these great fish.

Contact us ASAP to hook up a date.

Speckled Trout and Redfish on Fly and Spinning Gear

The water temps in the shallow waters of the local rivers and islands will be heating up. With the warmer water…Trout and redfish will be back and it's time for shallow water fly and spin fishing.
