New York, N.Y. (October 16, 2013) - The John Mackey Award (www.johnmackeyaward.com) has named Rob Blanchflower of Massachusetts as John Mackey Tight End of the Week. The Mid-American Conference senior recorded five receptions for 98 yards and the game winning touchdown as Massachusetts defeated Miami (Ohio) 17-10. His career long 47 yard touchdown reception came on a pass from QB A.J. Doyle that was tipped at the Miami (Ohio) 27 yard line, with Blanchflower able to adjust his route and slip by a Redhawks safety to pull in the reception at the Miami (Ohio) 19 yard line and run unhindered into the end zone with just over 3 minutes remaining in the third quarter. Other candidates considered for this week's John Mackey Tight End of the Week include Kivon Cartwright & Crockett Gillmore of Colorado State and Jake McGee of Virginia.
The 2013 John Mackey recipient will be presented live on December 12, 2013 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show: 6:00 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
