Road Work On Skippack Pike Through Next Week

PennDOT is installing fiber optics along Skippack Pike through March 24 as part of a project to improve the safety of intersections.

Work is taking place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Friday between Wentz Road and Butler Pike and will result in lane closures. Intersections impacted are Wentz Road/Parkwood Road, Cathcart Road, Union Meeting Road, Penllyn Blue Bell Pike, Walton Road, Lewis Lane, Narcissa Road/Prophecy Creek Park, and Butler Pike.

Intersections will be eventually be improved by replacing and installing new traffic signals, signal supports and related equipment; replacing signage; constructing ADA curb ramps; and restoring pavement markings.

Please allow extra time when traveling through the work area. The work is weather dependent.

Woodchip Bin Reopens

The woodchip bin on Jolly Road, near the intersection of Wentz Road, is rebuilt, restocked, and reopened for the spring season.

The old bin was constructed of wood which had become rotten after many years of service. The masonry walls of the new enclosure will ensure a long useful life for the new bin.

A Word From The Shade Tree Commission: Deer And The Changing Whitpain Landscape

Throughout Whitpain’s woodlands, deer are having a significant impact on the future and sustainability of the forests due to unchecked browsing on the next generation of tree saplings. Gone will be all the beneficial ecosystem services that trees and woodlands provide.

As the deer browse, they eliminate any future canopy replacement trees. The lower level of the forest will be gone and the song birds and beneficial insects that once lived there disappear. Through this process, our forests are slowly vanishing, undetectable to the eye, but declining steadily over the years.

Help support improving our Township’s trees and woodlands by planting native trees, and supporting the mission of the Shade Tree Commission.

From The EAC: Planting Native Species In Your Garden

It's time to start planning your garden.

By adding native plants to your garden beds and yard, you create habitats that support pollinators (birds, insects, bees) in the Spring, Summer and Fall.
