ICYMI: Mayor Staggs Delivers the 2023 State of the City Address

"I can say with confidence that 2022 was one of the most consequential years in Riverton’s 158-year history. We have much to be thankful for and much to be optimistic about. It is an honor for me, as your mayor, to stand here and report on the state of our great city.

It can be easy to become discouraged about the direction government takes. Nationally, we see many examples that highlight the dysfunction of government, and of our country’s political discourse. At the local level, the government closest to the people, this is not the case. We have proven in Riverton that we can work collaboratively together, find innovative solutions to problems, and keep costs in check for our residents. Unfortunately, local government doesn’t produce the flashy headlines and public conflicts that other levels of government do, so you often don’t hear about much of our success."

FOOD AND WATER STORAGE ESSENTIAL FOR EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS

Food and water storage are important aspects of emergency preparedness, as natural disasters, power outages and other unforeseen events can disrupt the normal supply of food and water. There are things you can do today to make sure your family is prepared for the unexpected.

When it comes to food storage, it is important to choose non-perishable items that don’t require refrigeration or cooking. Canned goods, dried fruits, nuts and crackers are good options. Be sure to rotate your food supply regularly and check expiration dates. Store your food in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and moisture.

Water storage is equally important. Store at least one gallon of water per person per day, for at least three days. Store your water in clean, airtight containers made specifically for water storage or use clean plastic or glass containers that have not held chemicals or food. Rotate your water supply every six months to ensure freshness. Consider purchasing a water filtration system or purification tablets as a backup.

By taking the time to prepare, you can help ensure you and your family are safe and healthy during a crisis.

ICYMI: HOW RIVERTON CITY MANAGES IMPOUNDED ANIMALS AND ADOPTABLE PETS

Every day, Riverton City Animal Control encounters dogs, cats and other animals that have escaped or been abandoned. To keep these animals safe and taken care of, they are transported to Stone Ridge Veterinary Clinic, at 1381 Stone Ridge Lane in Riverton. While they wait to be reunited with their families, a contract between Riverton City and Stone Ridge allows the animals to be housed and well cared for.

If after five days impounded animals have gone unclaimed, they are listed as being available for adoption.

Utility Billing Update

To provide better service, Riverton City will be transitioning to a new utility billing software platform in June. No action can be taken by customers yet, but we wanted you to be aware this change is coming.
