Join us for our annual design competition for high schoolers! Students work in teams to design a sustainable building in a bid for cash prizes. Teams collaborate remotely to research, design, and create a video presentation of their model for a panel of professionals from design fields including architecture and engineering.
Whether you are an eco-club sponsor, science teacher or career advisor, you can help your students discover the world of sustainable design!

Each year on DuPage County's Institute Day we delve into environmental issues we face in our community and discover the role sustainable solutions play. The virtual version of our annual institute day classes has reached capacity. Keep us in mind for next year!

This month we celebrate Mrs. Bishop's third grade class at St. Matthew Parish School in Glendale Heights. Together, they led a schoolwide collection of bread tags and got over 1,000 despite 2020 being such an unusual year.

When advertising your efforts to your school community, make sure it's clear that the items are only recyclable through your program and not in bins at home. There's a lot of confusion around recycling these days. We can all help to keep contamination out of recycling bins!

Protect your students from carcinogenic diesel exhaust emissions with low-emission buses. The Clean Diesel Grants offer up to $44 million total to fund projects that significantly reduce diesel emissions. Past projects include clean diesel and electric school buses.

Hands-on Project: Storm Drain Medallions
|
Are you looking for a safe, hands-on service project for students this spring? Your students can be a part of SCARCE's Storm Drain Medallion project - an effort to protect DuPage County's waterways from pollution. Participants identify and label storm drains with educational markers to prevent water contamination. Learn more & apply today!

What does good nutrition look like? Show what healthy food is to you in this exciting artistic challenge from People's Resource Center and College of DuPage. Entries due by February 26th. Learn more.

If you or someone you know made significant strides in 2020 towards more sustainable schools or communities - submit a nomination! These awards from The Center for Green Schools celebrate leaders (an individual, school, campus, or organization) as well as specific efforts or projects in several categories. Nominations are due March 7th.

Your students could help shape local efforts to protect and improve water quality! DuPage County Stormwater Management is currently studying the East Branch and wants your help. Log your water quality observations of the East Branch on the County's Water Quality Collector app. Observations will be used in the development of the East Branch of the DuPage River Water Quality Watershed Plan.

Wanted: Children's Braille Books

Do you have any children's books in braille? SCARCE has been contacted by a local organization in need of books for children with low-vision and blindness. Bring your braille storybooks to us during our donation hours Tu-Fri 9am-2pm. Have 5 or more boxes? Call 630-545-9710 to schedule your drop-off.
