Julie in the News

Always with Us is a progressive installation by Julie Chen, Writers & Books' current Artist in Residence. After losing her mother in 2018, Julie found comfort in making art with objects and artifacts her mother left behind.

Always with Us offers community members an opportunity to heal

by contributing departed loved ones' clothing, audio recordings, and other meaningful belongings.

This September, Julie talked about her work with our own Chris Fanning on Good Day Rochester.

Making Always With Us

It's been exciting to watch the transformation of Writers & Books' atrium as Julie builds the installation's "cloud."

Mark your calendar for celebrating the culmination of Always with Us:

Friday, November 3

6 - 8 pm

Opening & Gallery Talk

Gift Economy Tickets

Julie Chen is an interdisciplinary artist whose work examines remembrance of beings and places. Her artwork has been shown in galleries and museums across New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Wisconsin.
