MNC kicked off May with the new Inner Richmond Campus Grand Opening! The new campus is part of the Housing and Homelessness Prevention Service that assists with emergency rent and housing assistance for Asian, Russian, Ukrainian and Latinos. Many friends and new neighbors welcomed us. Groups like TRNC, RAMS INC, Richmond Neighborhood Center, The Russian American International School, Staff from the Mayor’s Office for Homelessness Support and many more!
GunZhu Mei, a single father to a daughter, offered wonderful testimony in Chinese, translated by Jocelyn Chang. He described almost losing his house before MNC helped him pay his rent for not only his daughter but for his elderly parents who he takes care of. He is grateful to MNC for helping him and this MNC Inner Richmond Campus is another place for others in need to seek assistance. Thank you Viktoriya Pfening, Yuliia Hrytsenko, Jocelyn Chang, Aurora Alvarado, Isabel St. Germain, Ana Cobos, David Levy, Ron Bamba and team for making this new campus a reality!

Male Warriors Graduation! | |
The Male Warriors Series was a very successful event and the Graduation ceremony was an unforgettable evening | |

Twenty-two courageous Papi Male Warriors celebrated their graduation ceremony as they strengthened their role as fathers. At the beginning many fathers were skeptical and shy, but soon they were laughing and comfortable once they realized they had come to a safe space where their voices and concerns could be heard with no judgement.
Some of the wives shared changes in their husbands through this experience. “My husband is more interactive and more patient with our daughter.” “My husband shows more patience and gives our daughter time to process her anger and then he comes back calmly to speak with her.”
Upon receiving certificates “Los Papis” also expressed what their feelings:
“It’s the first time I participated in a Fatherhood group and I learned a lot. I have started to put it into practice with my family.”
“I learned a lot and I would like to have these series for even more extended periods of time. I need to learn how to manage anger and not to hurt people around me.”
“These workshops helped me a lot, I could realize that there are many areas I need to improve, not only as a father, but also as a husband.”
The last grad said, “The experience was really interesting. I want to learn more and I hope you can have another series of workshops soon. I’ll be the first one to sign up.”
The Male Warriors Series is very valued, and the Graduation ceremony was an unforgettable evening for parents and children. They realized a united family stands stronger and happier. For the MNC Early Education Program, we not only care about the children’s education, but also about parents! By providing parents with an opportunity to increase their own knowledge and tools, we can help build a healthier and stronger family unit! Hats off to our MNC Team from Efrain Sandoval, Vicente Cortez, Frank Gonzalez, Patrick Romero Andres Tobar, Daniel Nieves, and Alejandro Vilchez!

MNC had a chance visit by Simon Sellstrom, a remarkable young man of Chinese and Swedish background, who runs a nonprofit in Kenya, Africa to teach technology. During tour of MNC’s Wolfsohn Campus, he walked into the senior Asian class. He spoke to them about himself and his work, all in perfect Cantonese.
The seniors were impressed by him and had an engaging conversation. He gave a brief seminar to staff on world workforce economics and spoke with Male Warriors team. We hope to see Simon drop by the MNC Wolfsohn Campus again soon!

MNC celebrated an early Cinco De Mayo with music, food, love, and community with over 50 guests. On May 3rd, Liliana Rossi Hall hosted Coro Solera; a collaboration choir between the Community Music Center and MNC lead by the wonderful Martha Rodríguez-Salazar. The choir celebrated the victory of Mexico over France in The Battle of Puebla which occurred on May 5th, 1862. Mariachi members also came by to play their beautiful guitars and violins alongside the choir which created beautiful moments for some of the participants as they joined in to sing the familiar songs.
After the performance, the fully decorated courtyard was fully decorated and had a delicious feast. There was Mesquite, Posole, Fresh Watermelon, Taquitos, Horchata, Strawberry Aqua Fresca, Tostados, and even special Concha Ice Cream Sandwiches! From start to finish the event was magical and an amazing chance for MNC staff, senior participants, and singers to enjoy music and food.

The San Francisco Conservatory of Music helps students develop the skills and the vision to successful careers and advancing our human experience through music | |
MNC’s Healthy Aging and Disability Services (HADS) hosted a series of concerts called “Springtime Concerts at MNC”. Students from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music performed for us three times during the month. For some elders this was the first time they have experienced and enjoyed a live music concert. The occasion was simply joyous. Thank you to the San Francisco Conservatory of Music for sharing music, joy, and love with MNC!

Members of their board, donors, partners and staff all gathered over appetizers, wine and refreshments to mingle and admire the new location. Nicole Taylor, President, and CEO OF SVCF, and Greta Hansen, SVCF’s Board Chair were also present to share a few words.
The Silicon Valley Community Foundation is an amazing donor-advised foundation that serves their community from individuals and families to institutions and companies. Their mission is to connect people, ideas, and resources to transform systems and ensure equity and opportunity for all.
