The Return Of SLAVE!

Discography & Background

The debut album in 1977 from the Ohio-based funk aggregate SLAVE was met with resounding success, highlighted by the release

of their single "Slide." This iconic track quickly captivated audiences with its captivating gothic intro, dynamic vocals, and pulsating bassline. "Slide" swiftly climbed to the number one position on the Billboard R&B charts in just 20 weeks, solidifying its status as a timeless funk anthem that continues to resonate with music lovers worldwide.

SLAVE's creative funk music contributions were showcased on their second renowned 1978 album 'The Concept', which included the standout track 'Stellar Funk', which marked the beginning of an exciting journey towards musical excellence. The dedication and talent displayed in these early works set the stage for a promising and impactful career ahead.

'The follow up LP, 1979's 'Just A Touch Of Love', saw the title track reaching the pop charts in the United Kingdom and the album reached number 11 on Billboard's Top Soul Albums chart in 1980. The album's title track reached the top ten on the Soul Singles chart.

"Stone Jam" by the esteemed American funk band SLAVE stands as a testament to their musical prowess and timeless artistry. Released in 1980 on Cotillion Records and later reissued in 1997 on Rhino Records, this fifth album was expertly produced by the talented duo of Jimmy Douglass and Steve Washington. The album's impact was undeniable as it secured a spot on the prestigious Billboard 200 and the 1981 Year-End Chart, eventually achieving Gold certification by the RIAA. Boasting iconic hits like "Sizzlin' Hot", "Feel My Love", and "Watching You", the album's influence transcended generations; with "Watching You" even being skillfully interpolated by rapper Snoop Dogg in his tracks "Gin and Juice" and "Let's Get Blown". "Stone Jam" remains a timeless masterpiece that continues to captivate music enthusiasts worldwide.
