Places to find us on the web:

Why B'sue Loves 1928

It's not hard to like the new B'sue by 1928 line!   These are some of the best jewelry components you will ever buy.  The craftsmen in the 1928 factory are without equal.  Some were fine jewelers before they came to work with this company, and the man in charge of casting was a goldsmith!

Casting pewter is a bit different than working with gold; in some ways, more forgiving, and in other ways you have to be more careful to achieve the look you want.   The molds at 1928 are made from old bits of jewelry found at antiques shops and fleas in Europe, over the years.

This necklace was cast from old slides:

I posted this photo on my personal Facebook page last week; I collect 1928 Jewelry as well as curate the components line.  I never had purchased this piece; it's not something you will often see.   I love anything that looks like real vintage.

Right away my niece, Candice, messaged me and wanted to buy one!   I just so happened to have an extra one.  Here she is, wearing it:

I love the way they put the diamond-shaped on in the center, it gives the necklace a V-shape.

It's not so hard to find reproduction costume jewelry slide BRACELETS, but it's not often you find a necklace.   Others thought so too...

as a result, six other people wrote me and wanted to get one!   LOL

They are going to love them.

It's such a ball choosing pieces for the guys to cast for us!   As we all get to enjoy the B'sue by 1928 line.  NOW they are looking for the molds for the slides in this necklace so that they can cast 'em up for the line....and I can present them to you in Old Silver, Gingerbread and Rusted Iron, to change them up and make the necklace YOUR way.

How cool is that!

This week a whole lot of pieces restocked and my proprietary pieces, in other words, the pieces that have been made just for the line, never used in 1928 Jewelry Company lines previously, have been plated.    So now you can get them in those beautiful vintage finishes!

Here are just a few:

We  are still loading and finishing the silver pieces but all the Rusted Iron ones are on the site.  REMEMBER:   Rusted iron distresses beautifully; looks great when you add SWELLEGANT (which is also back in stock at the site, find it here:  https://www.bsueboutiques.com/category-s/1892.htm)   and is the bomb when you use Iced Enamels  and a resin topper with them.

My love for 1928 Jewelry Company goes back to when I was 19 and planning my wedding.   They were a very new company then (1975) and there was a little retail catalog floating around, that I saw.   Inside there was a little chain necklace with a pretty little bead on it, and it looked very much like this, just a bit smaller.   I remember it came in this peachy pink, a shade of blue, and white with a different colored rose on it.

I wrote the company and asked them if I could buy six necklaces, for my bridesmaids.

The response was that they could not sell me any retail, but that if I wanted to go up to Halle Brothers in Cleveland, they would make sure that I could pick the necklaces up, there.

It was just too complicated, so sadly I let the idea go.   Many years later when I began to work with the company, I asked the owner, Mr. Bernie, about this bead and told him about my necklace, which I had never forgotten.

He produced the bead.

This week he produced the necklace:

These are recipe boards, or the records of how their many different designs were made with all the item numbers on them, the length of the chains used, type of pendant, etc.   These boards are very early for the company, from maybe 1972 up to possibly 1980.   At this time they were not yet doing a great deal of casting.

Most of the pendants were custom-soldered stampings that were plated and set with a vintage stone.

These boards were sent to me in a large box as a GIFT.   Mr. Bernie  knew I would use them to teach and that I would cherish them.

There, on the top of the pile, in the middle, is a simple chain necklace with a single bead.   THAT is my necklace and the date stamp on the board corroborated it.   This is the one with the blue bead.

So now I have the bead to share with you and I have the original recipe board....and the necklace.   He always likes to say he doesn't remember....but *I* know he knew what he was doing when he threw that in there.

It only arrived 42 years late!   LOL

Why WOULDN'T I love 1928?  And it's such a joy to share the stories and the finds with you.   Don't worry....there are MANY more coming!!

Well....

Today is Earrings SUNDAY!   Jann focused on green stones for her collage:

Here are a pair of her earrings this week...

Another pair from Lori Meyer's collection:

This pair was made by Marcia Tuzzolino:

Earrings are a quick and easy way to get back into jewelry making if you are just recovering from a winter funk!

Lots of times I like to just work out of a pile of stuff that might have accumulated on my workbench and see how many pair I can make of it.   That much less I have to clean up and put away!

At the May Workshop, in our Sunday class I will be discussing mini assemblage and of course....we're gonna have fun with some.

With the mini pieces same as the big ones, balance and placement is everything.

It's really fun, too, to use images, little scraps of chain, stones, ceramic flowers...you name it!

Here is a piece that Barbara Kelly shared with us this week:

Here is a video to get you started in case you haven't tried doing decoupage collage/assemblage:

Another way to do mini assemblage is by decorating old keys....

What fun!

Jann Tague was going out to do a show this weekend so look at all these cute key pendants she made:

So go on and get out some little bibs and bobs, 40x30mm cameo mounts, blanks and bases, old buttons, bits of chain, old coins and found items, charms.....and have a ball!

I'm tellin' ya....you can really get lost in a project like this.

And I sold every last piece I made in this video, too!

Each week there are so many clever new ideas from  the  members of the

  B'sue Boutiques Creative Group

This week I decided to feature jewelry made with tassels....since so many of them shared tassel jewelry with us.

Here's  one I made some time back:

And some loose tassels....these are from a video we made not long after Javi came to work for us:

I love to mix them with fiber, Spectra beads, found bits, pieces of chain and old buttons or even semi precious stone donuts.   And old tassel on top is awesome, too!

Check out Leila Belcher's tassels:

Chris Kemp made this nifty piece:

And this one, too!

This is a tassel necklace from Janet Calardo:

And lastly....not a tassel but I just HAD to share Joan Williams' bunny focal necklace....how sweet is this?

Welcome Spring, right?

I have another gift this week, I chose an order number that someone will surely 'hit' this week.   Who ever matches up with that order number will receive this highly collectable cat and fish bowl brooch from1928 Jewelry Company!

I have seen Etsy sellers who have vintage ones found out at markets and shops, for as much as 120.00 each.

Well, this piece is recently made, but it's not a reproduction of the original 1928 piece.   It is the same in every way, nothing different.   The company still makes them once in a blue moon.  I guess it was a blue moon, as I asked Mr. Bernie to make them again....and he did.

Last week, Amy Cabanlet won the magnifying glass pendant.

She doesn't know that yet!  BUT: SURPRISE!!   But it will be on its way to her soon!
