About the Program

Learn from Los Angeles Superior Court's leadership and experienced settlement officers about the Resolve Law LA Virtual Mandatory Settlement Conference (MSC) Program. Resolve Law LA offers free three-hour MSCs staffed by volunteer Settlement Officers drawn from members of ASCDC, BHBA, CAALA, CELA, LA-ABOTA, and LACBA. These MSCs are currently available for Los Angeles County Superior Court (LASC) personal injury cases and noncomplex employment cases assigned. Cases must have been ordered into the program to be eligible.

This training will prepare you to serve as a Settlement Officer and familiarize you with how the program functions. You’ll learn how to sign up, what to do once you’re assigned, how to perform the required conflicts check, what materials you’ll receive from parties, and how to conduct the MSC.

Attendees of this program who commit to volunteering as Resolve Law LA settlement officers will receive free access to BHBA’s new 40-Hour Mediation Course. Details will be provided during the live webinar and in the recording that will be available through BHBA OnDemand.

Attorney members of ASCDC, BHBA, CAALA, CELA, LA-ABOTA and LACBA with at least 10 years litigation experience serve as the program’s volunteer Settlement Officers. Each MSC will be staffed by one Plaintiff Settlement Officer and one Defense Settlement Officer. The Settlement Officers perform conflict checks for the cases to which they are assigned and must confirm that they have no conflicts before proceeding on the case. Virtual MSCs are held via Zoom, are 3-hours long, and are conducted at 9:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Monday-Friday each week.
