Dear PARIM Members,
It is our great pleasure to officially open Manitoba’s Resident Doctor Appreciation Week 2024! We have many fun activities planned this week to celebrate you! There are over 600 resident doctors across the province. Each and every one of you have a positive impact on the health of those living in Manitoba. Thank you!
Most days it feels like the stress added on during the global pandemic has not abated, as we see our healthcare system short-staffed and underfunded. We know what it is like to take on more responsibility as the gaps in care grow wider. Many of us have noticed teaching is sacrificed for service, yet we are expected to continue our own research, teaching, learning, and leadership. We are told the culture is changing and we need to make time for our health, wellness, friends and families but find there is no space for a break - to just breathe. Despite these demands, we see residents consistently delivering exceptional and compassionate care for our patients. Despite everything, we grow and succeed. Thank you. You are valued and appreciated.
Resident Appreciation Week is about celebrating the past year's hard work. We remind our partners, allies, and bosses that we deserve recognition for our contributions. We work excessive hours with poor sleep and little control over our schedule. Times are hard and PARIM is always striving for better working conditions and compensation. While our PARIM team appreciates you every single day, we hope that during this week we discover we are not alone in celebrating your every success.
We hope this week you can also find a quiet moment to reflect on the how your work makes a difference to those around you. Think about the families that thanked you, the tricky diagnosis you made, or the surgery you did well. The lives you have saved, helped, and changed because you were there.
We hope you can find some joy in your work this week, and find some fun in the events planned:
1. Headshots with Leif: Photographer Leif Norman will be at the PARIM lounge at HSC this Thursday from 1:30-4:30 pm, and at Room A1140, St. Boniface GH on Friday from 1:30-4:30.
2. Doughnut days: Doughnuts from Oh Doughuts will be available at the PARIM Lounge at HSC this Thursday from 1:30 pm, and at St. Boniface this Friday from 1:30pm.
3. Application for rural / remote site activities: Residents rotating at rural/periphery sites can apply for up to $50 per group to celebrate Resident Doctor Appreciation Week! Just fill out the online form by February 9, and reimbursement will be arranged.
