SISTER MARIE HEPPELER

Beginning Wednesday, March 8, we are invited to celebrate Catholic Sisters Week. We have been blessed to have Sister Marie Heppeler serving at Saint Pius X since our opening 15 years ago. Sister Marie is a member of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ who has given herself in faithful service to Catholic school elementary education for 53 years. She loves the Grand Canyon and Maggie Valley. Did you know that she can play the piano, xylophone and guitar? She worked in Direct Care to persons with severe and profound disabilities, and as an assistant to a speech and language pathologist working with children. Sister Marie has been dedicated to the care of her friend who is wheelchair bound and on dialysis for nearly 40 years. She serves on the Board of Linden House in Mishawaka, affordable housing for seniors, sponsored by the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ.

Sister Marie spent time caring for Cambodian refugee children of patients at a hospital in Khao-I-Dong, a camp in Thailand. She has touched the lives of children on two continents and we are blessed to have her with us!

CAREER DAY

Career Day – Presenters Needed!

Friday, May 12 from 12pm – 2pm

Career Day 2023 is in the works, and we need your help to make it a success! Do you or someone you know have a fun and engaging profession and a free afternoon? The HASA Education and Information Committee is looking for a handful of individuals who would like to present to our middle school students. Presenters will be asked to prepare a short presentation about their current occupation and the path taken to get to where they are today.

If you or someone you know would like to help out, please email

Amy Bona by March 31, 2023.

NEW FAMILY MENTORS

Become a New Family Mentor!

The New Family Ambassador Committee helps families who are new to Kindergarten through 8th grade at Saint Pius X feel welcome and connected to our community. An integral part of our plan is to pair all new families with Mentor Families who will be a resource as they start at Saint Pius X. This is where we need your help! Please consider signing up to be a mentor family!

STATIONS OF THE CROSS

Thanks to all the families that have signed up for a station on March 26 for HASA's First Annual Stations of the Cross. We still have some spots available for your family to lead a station. Participation only requires you/your family to read a small passage (which we will share prior to March 26) - no acting degree required! Please sign up HERE if your family would like to lead a station. If you don't want to lead a station, we hope you join us on March 26 for an afternoon of community prayer.

We will meet at the grotto at 2 pm March 26 and walk to the stations as a group. Following the stations, HASA will have a take-home activity for your family to continue on your Lenten journey.

We look forward to joining Saint Pius X families in prayer during the Lenten season,

PREPARING FOR LENT

Adult Catholics know the three tenets of Lent are to pray, to fast, and to give alms. But how to explain the meaning of these three actions of faith to our Catholic kids?
